Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

What's wrong with the file browser's search?

I think I heard at some point that there was an option to index files built into Windows, might be wrong though (I'll look tomorrow, I'm on my phone atm)
Edit: Just googled it, it seems like there is. If you turn that on, it will make default Windows Explorer searching as fast as that (will use up some disk space, and cpu time when doing things with files though)

I use it fairly extensively, considering the search provided by Windows is utter dog ****. It's unfortunately not open source, although it's not malware. It's freeware.

If Atilla uses it, it must be good!

It's actually much faster than Windows default search still, even with indexing enabled. It'd be great if there was an open-source equivalent to Everything but I haven't found any so far.

Oh ok, I wonder how it does it then, because I would have thought that the default windows search would be pretty optimised...
And isnt search with indexing fast enough that it doesnt really need to be any faster? I dont want to test it because I dont want indexing to be on on my computer, so this is just from what Ive heard about it though.

I'd intuitively expect the searching on Windows to be fast with indexing enabled, although it just seems like this is one of the times that just isn't the case, and third-party tools do a better job with the native environment.
I don't know if there's anything special about Everything that results in a large performance gain, as far as I'm aware of it's merely reading from the USN journal and monitoring the file system for updated files, as you'd expect.

built in windows search is trash. Half the time I type in "paint" I get "Settings" instead. They can't even make it function right in the first place.

One thing that might help is that Everything only indexes file names. The default search indexes file names as well as file contents.
