Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Basically a solid color block you can set to any color on the color wheel.
I think it would be good..

That would literally ruin everything about being creative with blocks to make nice minimap art.

I hate comments like this. "Don't add X because it will make it too easy." You do not have to use this block. If you want to be creative then sure go ahead, no one is stopping you from limiting the blocks you use for creativity purposes. But some of us don't have the patience to deal with the current crappy colour palette and we'd be able to express ourselves more. This block would allow more people to have nicer looking mini maps. Surely that is a good thing? Also just imagine the shading capabilities this block could bring...

I hate comments like this too "If you don't like it don't use it" (for something to make a game easier)
E.g. Those old potion things, you didn't *have* to use them, but not doing so meant others had an unfair advantage
Minimap art is still a major part of the game, and making it easier by using solid colour blocks will 1. Basically change it to 'who can google the best image and copy it' and 2. Probably be abused, as whole worlds would be made from them, which would make the in game view boring, and make the game confusing as you won't be able to tell what is a BG and what isnt

This argument is more logical since it is something you have the freedom to do without consequence. If the block doesn't exist in the first place then people miss out on the freedom to easily create nice looking maps.
E.g. Those old potion things, you didn't *have* to use them, but not doing so meant others had an unfair advantage
Potions were a whole different thing that were completely stupid. The point here is that the very concept of them allowed it to be unfair. Giving other users the freedom to use blocks that you think makes the game to easy is not unfair as it is a personal preference not to use them and an opinion over whether that is too easy.
Minimap art is still a major part of the game,
So why shouldn't everyone have the freedom to make it good?
making it easier by using solid colour blocks will 1. Basically change it to 'who can google the best image and copy it'
In case you haven't noticed worlds that consist of just an image are not very popular. This kind of thing will majorly limit gameplay. Even if it is added as a background blocks so the world looks exactly like an image but still keeps all the gameplay that would get boring very quickly. It would be pointless and creative so naturally people will shy away from those types of worlds. This block could also be used to just make art worlds which are nice to look at. Having these types of worlds will not reduce the number of worlds currently made the way they are. It is clear from this thread that many people do not like the idea of simple images in EE and as a result it is clear such worlds will not be popular. Things will stay the way they are it's just you can have a little more artistic freedom and undoubtedly a new type(s) of worlds will arise. What's so bad about that? It means more worlds which each appeal to different types of people which is more likely to keep players playing.
2. Probably be abused, as whole worlds would be made from them, which would make the in game view boring, and make the game confusing as you won't be able to tell what is a BG and what isnt
Have you ever noticed how disliked worlds that abuse invisible blocks and gravity are? This is because you cannot tell what's going on as it is confusing and often you cannot tell what is a BG and what isn't. These worlds aren't popular and nor would worlds that over use this block be.
Y'all seem to think that if this block is added then any world built with it will become instantly popular and drown out any actually good worlds. But crappy worlds that use this block in a crappy way will be exactly that: crappy. No one will play the world if this block is over used and used wrong. The only difference this block will make is a potential new type of world that appeals to different people who may not have been interested in EE before and it will also allow MORE people to make high quality worlds by mini map standards. Surely more high quality worlds are a good thing? Not to mention that even if you are already good at making mini map art just thunk about how much better you could be with infinite shading possibilities. Mini map art should not be prioritised over in game art and despite your fears this block will not make that true. Worlds that are beautiful on the mini map but an eye sore in game will not be popular as no one will enjoy that.
