I dont think this would be needed for many things, so it would probably be best just to have a switch thing to count jumps (fairly easy)

i dont see how switches could be used to make jump doors/gates. in a dynamic way, that is.

sure switches could be placed corresponding to when you get an effect. but what if you are jumping thought the air: "5 jumps, then 4, then 3 etc." you cant use switches to open for 3 and 3 alone.

I'm a fan of doors and gates; simply because they are one of the only things that actually effect gameplay as with many new rules and conditions there are more possibilities. Despite this, a jumps door is the only one I have opposed so far for the stupid reason that they just wouldn't feel right to me.
