well if we picture this on a bell curve distribution, it becomes apparent how we can't just say something is or is not average without defining how close to the set's true average one has to be to gain the title of "average"

A 50% cut out the middle?

This argument, of course, assumes that the average of a set is a single finite number which clearly doesn't fit because then the chances of being average are 1/n, definitely not supporting the odds claim.
