Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Are pranks sadistic?

Are pranks sadistic? This notion comes from the fact that pranksters want to receive a reaction from their "victims", usually a terrified or scared reaction is what pranksters prefer.

"I'm a robber! Give me all your money!"
"Ok!! Don't shoot me!"
"It's just a prank bro, I just wanted to see yor terrified reaction because my inner sadist was hungry."

Re: Are pranks sadistic?

Kind of? I feel like finding pranks funny is a normal thing, whereas sadism isn't.

Re: Are pranks sadistic?

If they are smashing their computer and punching them in the face only to afterwards say "it's just a prank bro" it's sadistic.
If it's more of a lighthearted joke i would say it's less so.

Re: Are pranks sadistic?

depends on the prank imo.

if the prank is just a lighthearted, funny joke then it's absolutely not sadistic, especially if both the prankster and the person being pranked think it's amusing. like none of these exist on youtube or the internet

if the prank makes the person being pranked completely terrified, depressed, sad, or any other form of emotion that may put them in moderate to extreme amounts of pain it's absolutely not a "prank" anymore. sadly, basically every prank on youtube is like this

Re: Are pranks sadistic?

I think all pranks no matter what are sadistic because they all are derived from an urge to see another beings' emotion, which leads to a..."Woah bro it's just a prank" or "Haha dude you almost died" etc.

Re: Are pranks sadistic?

Even the smallest prank is sadistic. In fact a lot of jokes are a mix of having people look bad, and then laugh - over 80% of people do that.

That's not the same as being a sadist though. I can laugh at my friend tripping over, but I wouldn't be laughing if he was being tortured.

I would also like to add that if a prank does any lasting damage (such as broken objects or injuries), then it's probably a bad prank. I don't think I would ever do any extreme pranks (like tricking others into thinking somebody got hurt), but I might be willing to do sillier ones (like loose salt shaker lids).

It depends. I believe all comedy is bringing light to something dark, though this can take a bad turn when it involves real life people in pain. If the prankee is fine with the prank afterwards and finds it funny, it's probably fine. It's the same way about how friends sometimes joke at each other, but are fine with it because they can take a joke, and trust the other person not to mean them as genuine insults.

Is breaking someone's window and throwing a box of 10,000 crickets inside their house sadistic?

Maverick: Started up on a 6, when he pulled from the clouds, and then I moved in above him.
Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Because I was inverted.

We are talking pranks in general, all pranks are sadistic.

Re: Are pranks sadistic?

When you're pulling a prank you WANT it to be a big deal right? Exactly! You wanna make the prank as powerful as possible, but following up with a comedic conclusion.

You might say dressing up as a zombie is funny, but if you were to face a zombie person on the street you'd probably not wanna be on film or think there was some crazy person who was latched on to you. I'd definitely feel traumatized there. People who like making others feel that way are evil.
