Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

The rule on the forum is that you can't link to something if it has inappropriate language unless you put a disclaimer on it(?). If that's the case, why would there be a link to a chat room full of uncensored swearing with no sort of disclaimer?

You could use an IRC client that has swearing censors within it. /topic

That's not the point of the topic. The point of the topic is that having unmarked swearing not be allowed in forum posts and having it be allowed on an unmarked link on the top of every single page contradict each other. Your idea won't fix that, and it won't end the topic.
According to the moderators in the IRC, links to swears without any sort of warnings are allowed. Though, that brings up the question why if images with swearing in spoilers have to have warnings...

The spoiler thing is in the process of being changed.

Now Zoey's implying in IRC that linking to swears isn't allowed. There should really be an official policy on this, as I'm confused...

So, your point is that nobody else should care if I care about something? Am I now the standard for which people can judge whether or not something is worth caring about?

What's your point, then? It's hard to understand what you're saying through these brief posts.

At this point is "because I feel like it and I run the site" an okay answer? The chat is an outside site, we don't require the rest of the internet to follow site specific rules. EE has swearing and somehow it's also managed to keep its spot on the navbar.

this could be avoided if we got rid of the no swearing rule
this isn't kindergarten, kids know what swear words are

I don't have a problem with the IRC having swears; I have a problem because there's no disclaimer. On this forum, swears with disclaimer (in some cases) is allowed, while swears without disclaimers don't. Simply creating an intermission page between the IRC button to the actual IRC would be useful (as well as other information about the chat room such as a link to the rules). Not only would this suggestion keep up the consistency with the rules, but it could make the IRC easier to use for those unfamiliar with it.

I don't recall uncensored and unlabelled swearing being allowed on either the forum or the game.

We don't have a rule against swearing; we just have a rule against censor evasion.
If you're suggesting we remove all the censors, I think that's a bad idea. Like 90% of swearing is unneeded. We don't need to see people referencing feces, sexual activity, and incest every argument or funpost as "sentence enhancers". Even if you still want to see that, there could be an option to disable censors under profile settings.

Yeah, you're right, lots of children these days know what swear words are. When they're enabled to use swear words, they go on to swear like a sailor because it's they think it's cool. Which is exactly why I think they should be discouraged from swearing. Even if you treat swear words as if they're silly (which they are), they'll just miss the point and move onto harsher and more offensive ones. Which is exactly what they're doing.

We got rid of the no swearing rule
We don't require disclaimers for links that link to pages that contain swearing so why would we here

So, you would need a disclaimer if you were to embed a YouTube video, but not if you were to link to one? That seems kind of weird.

somewhat. I raised that issue in our previous discussion of censoring inappropriate language in the mod discussion
But, the embed is, in terms of flow, some degree closer to the user than running off to Youtube

embedding a video or image in our site is basically posting it on our site. Putting a link to it very clearly separates that other site from us.
