EDIT: When you select the text it just doesn't keep extra arguments.
Click "quote" and then delete all stuff you dont need.

Yes, we've discussed this before, to some extent. I don't recall the smileys being part of the discussion though.
In essence, we got this thing working where you could do the selective quoting AND preserve BBCodes but we all stopped caring about it
Koya might have made a suggestion about making the smileys' hover texts actually be their textual representations but I might be wrong about that
