Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Remove the ability to lock our own topics

It seemed like a good idea, but people are locking topics that don't need to be locked.

Sometimes they cut off conversations.

Re: Remove the ability to lock our own topics

What about that compromise that was mentioned somewhere else? Only allow locking in Creative and Rooms and whatever else?

Neither is removing the ability entirely but here we are.

yeah but removing it entirely would (probably) take very slightly less effort

Just because some people close topics while not needed doesn't mean you have to remove the feature. That would be like stopping people from driving just because a small part of drivers don't have a license

Re: Remove the ability to lock our own topics

We are meant to be allowed to close our own topics because our Overlord Diff messed with the files making it impossible for people to delete their topics. Why do you want to revoke our ability just because of some people that clearly don't know how to use it well?

i'd rather have the lock feature stay but if you want it removed so much then remove it in discussions, offtopic and debate subforums only pls

No, bad idea. Why did you suggest to remove our ability to lock own topics?

Re: Remove the ability to lock our own topics

omfg can you tards not read?

You are stifling conversation.

"bad idea"
why?

You can't just say "nope, that's bad." You need to explain why.

Re: Remove the ability to lock our own topics

It should be removed because there is no "good or bad" use of locking like AlphaJon said, it is always bad, even though something is answered or solved there can still be possible discussion.

This is true, however asking a question or bringing up another subject in a thread where the Op's question was answered makes it less likely to be seen by other people, so its better to use a new thread in most cases.

Re: Remove the ability to lock our own topics

But how can I get the last laugh in an argument if I can't lock the thread? xD

One bot to rule them all, one bot to find them. One bot to bring them all... and with this cliché blind them.

Please not! Let the feature stay! If OP locks a topic it should stay locked. Maybe he don't wants it to be opened any more or whatever... Let it stay!

only have the ability to lock topics in forum games (and debates?)

it is unnecessary in any other section

driving actually has a very important use for many people, whereas users being able to lock their own topics is only very rarely legitimately useful

most of the valid reasons for locking topics are to do with rule-breaking, which should be handled by moderators, not the topic owner

the rare actual valid reasons for a user to lock their own topic could be dealt with on their own

going only off of user locked topics within the first page of each sub forum, here's a separation of the good and bad:
good ones
-locking topic on personal issues that probably shouldn't actually have been a topic rather than pm in the first place (probably better handled by mod but not really bad) (*2)
-random spam (probably should be handled by mods) (*2)
bad ones
-topics with questions closed after op got answer, preventing any possible further discussion that may be relevant (*12)
-topic about crew closed (it probably doesn't matter either way, but not really a valid reason to stop potential discussion, however unlikely)
-???? no apparent reason, but blocking discussion anyways (*12)
-creative topic op not continuing with creating art for people (people might still want to discuss the art- they can simple say they are not, and not watch the topic)

so uh yeah

Re: Remove the ability to lock our own topics

I don't know if you remember, but you would just see mods posting "Locked by OP request" in those topics instead. Removing the self-lock is just going to bring back this, and will add unnessary work for diff (to remove the feature) and the staff (because they would have to close the topics themselves instead).

oh no! the forum staff is actually going to need to do something? We can't have that.

I remember there weren't as many locked topics. I remember not being cut off in the middle of a conversation in nearly every single topic I posted in.
