Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Hi! I'm doing another gem hunt, this time without a survey. (yay!)
The prize will be 50 gems. Complete the puzzles, get the gems. There are more puzzles than last time. They might be harder or easier than last time.
This might have benefited from more preparation, but I wanted to beat the black friday celebration so that in some lights the reward is actually double.
The contest starts (hopefully) at 12:00 PM CST, 1:00 PM EST. (Wednesday, tomorrow, the 23rd, before thanksgivin')
I still track individual progress by IP, something I probably would've fixed if I had more time. Something's weird with this server compared with the last one... things don't update like I like them to. So refreshing might be a thing you will get used to.
I still ask you for your username, but I suppose you can pick a false username. Of course, if you say your username is 'hummerz5' then hummerz5 will still get the gems for winning.
countdown adjusted for time zones
This should be fun. I'm hoping that these puzzles are enjoyable, increasing in difficulty.
As with last time, if I've overlooked something, please keep me in the loop so I can keep you folk in the loop.

Did I win yet?

no, but thanks for asking.
damn that's right in the middle of class
Last year's took more than a few hours. Class shouldn't hold you back.
If someone wins while you're in class, that means I've fallen off as a puzzler.

it's pretty hard to win when given a -4 hour headstart though
True. Of course, presumably everyone has their own obligations that would conflict with any point in the time scheme I would pick. Given that, everyone would have their own schedule problems. The only people with a clear advantage are those who do nothing. Those who do nothing would not have any less of a head start... so ultimately that's just a thing.

bumpo eegemhunt.x10host.com/default.php
Yeah so if I'm terrible at explaining parts here, I hope to have some sort of equal method for hinting people. I'd probably go in four-hour increments, if people actually get stuck that long... and then add hints to every level someone is on. equality I guess.
you guys are giving this so little hype that the two people who do play are going to have one heck of a time! :3
edit: going for a run. if I don't make it back... tell the forums... the hunt/contest has started but no really it starts a noon with or without me

hold up what's going on
the countdown says there's still an hour left
where do we start? are you going to give some sort of starting point when it does begin?

Shouldn't something change? Didn't it started? I really suck at this kind of competitions
Everybody edits, but some edit more than others

hey folks it's started! three-way-tie on four
thanks to koya for the css. it looks nice so
things sure are quiet tho. is this thing on
edit: ok it's been 15 minutes. I'll give a hint for level zero because it's not a level:
edit: hey so please don't "work together" as it were... just a belief of mine that folks should win of their own accord, not based on who they know
also, there's a surprise at the end
edit: No competing players have passed level four. The others are beta testing and have forfeited prize.
edit: I goofed and pushed the hints early. As discussed, I will take a step back from the hints as to give others who could not fit the schedule better chances. *zips lips*
edit: next batch of hints will be at 6 PM and I swear I won't just dump them like I did on accident

I can't complete any of the puzzles besides the first two that literally tell you the answer. What the hell is this about destromps and hengangs, why does the question seem so open ended, how did people even solve this??
thx for sig bobithan

F5 forever and you hit 5, really fast without doing anything.

I loved that "can a match box" one.

I'll be honest, I wasn't even really trying, I just wanted to see whai it looked like, and also for some reason, the first time I loaded the page I ended up at level 4 with that "killjoy" question

yeah something's weird with the server, swear it's not me
I set it to like zero caching and I'm getting less of that error

Can I see the source code of the page(s) once the competition ends? I'm interested :3
sessions can also help if you want to track progress via cookies for a given computer, would definitely fix that dynamic IP issue at the same time, and no more re-asking that username. Session data is stored server-side, with a cookie containing an ID on the clients.
I would happily provide you with a mirror hosting of the pages by copying it myself or providing you FTP access, but that would make me have the sources, which I can understand you not being comfortable with until the competition ends.

Then how did others pass level 4?

I'm periodically adding hints, at this point quite a few have traveled past that level... but it also stops quite a few folks.
@Alphajon
Thanks, but I think it's working well enough. I like sessions up until they only last for so much time. The browser window or 30 minutes...
you're welcome to the codes but they aren't a sight for sore eyes
