Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

MEGATHREAD No Unity support for Chrome;HTML5 support small;EE p2p??

You might not be able to play EE after the Unity update because HTML5 IS NOT fully supported!

Almost one year ago, Google Chrome removed support for the Unity Web Player: http://twiik.net/articles/google-chrome … web-player

Do you think that EE should move to a more recent platform, considering that Google Chrome has 57.2% of the market share (Wikipedia) many users will be left out in the cold, and will have to switch browsers. Many of whom don't like IE because "it's too slow" and Firefox for the same reason. This leaves only a few of the major players like Safari and Opera, but they have limited support too.

Do you think UnitEE should be changed to WebGL, something that's supported in much more browsers?

There are plans to make EE into HTML5, but not all browsers fully support HTML5 https://html5test.com/results/desktop.html . Do you think EE should stick with a more widely used technology?

TO ITERATE: THE GAME WILL RUN AS HTML5 ON WEBSITES. THIS MEANS THAT YOU WILL NOT BE AFFECTED, DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL ANYTHING, AND YOU CAN KEEP PLAYING IN ALL BROWSERS LIKE NORMAL. STOP PANICKING. YOU CAN CHOOSE TO USE THE STANDALONE UNITY CLIENT, BUT DON'T HAVE TO!

So it's fine i think

Re: MEGATHREAD No Unity support for Chrome;HTML5 support small;EE p2p??

Didn't we have some side-project going to that end (HTML5)?

Does HTML5 interface with steam? Steam and Unity seem to have some ties at some level. If we're dead set on steam for some reason, we'd have to [steam]roll on with it.

edit: /topic ninja'd

although: are we certain html5 will just happily roll over with the unity? or is it the other way around? are we certain direct conversions are peaceful

HTML5 isn't supported in all browsers https://html5test.com/results/desktop.html

Will some people not be able to play EE after the update? It seems like they will have to install extra software to run the game if their browser is not supported.

Wouldn't they still need to if it was Unity? Perhaps there is no perfect solution

We might have to do that. There will be some browsers which don't support HTML5 or unity and you'll have to get a new one.

With Unity comes a downloadable version which will be distributed on Steam; anyway, the only part of HTML5 that EE cares about is <canvas> which is supported by Opera in version 9 and later - there should be no issue with the main browsers as long as they are on a version younger than 2 years old.

What about Flash? If I recall correctly, some browsers require users to download Flash. Although that's still a valid argument, it's not a new problem.

It looks like there will need to be additional software installed--maybe even Steam. Since submitting games on Steam will cost money for the developers, while a very small chance, EE might cost money to play

I'm not really worried about the display, more about the networking side of things. Unity has a playerio client, but is it confirmed that the client survives being exported to HTML5?

There's no word from NOU based on the newest information which will be very worrying for times to come because we don't know if the client will still work in HTML5.

That raises a good question: Will the HTML5 client work?

kind of offopic but will ee staff abandon facebook and kong users which are probably 40% of ee community by not allowing them to log in on the unity exe?

Re: MEGATHREAD No Unity support for Chrome;HTML5 support small;EE p2p??

In the first place there was indeed an idea to port EE to HTML5, however they decided to keep using PlayerIO as a back-end service.
I don't think that the current staff would do anything that may affect the user base so drastically like putting a tax on the game.
My main concern is how will they be able to convert Unity to JavaScript. JavaScript performances are drastically lower than C#. So for your browser to run a C# code in a JavaScript environment, in my opinion would be like putting a rabbit on a turtle to move.
Probably disappointing a lot of people, but in my opinion, EE staff didn't really look to reduce lag but trying to keep their user base intact, since Flash is slowing depreciating they had to move to another platform.

This, my account is Facebook. It would be on the original website but I didn't know that existed until my FB account on EE went too far.

What are you talking about? They can upload unity on kongregate and we can play like normal. No idea about FB though. Probably a "here, you can't play there anymore so we moved you to main site"

Are you kidding me . Ofcourse it costs money for the devs BUT i doubt that EE might cost money. It will be P2W like it always has been

EDIT: Actually scrap that P2W. it has been cosmetic like it has always been

Of course EE will not cost money to play. EE has always been a free-to-play game and it'll stay like that forever. No need to worry about that. EE will also be marked as a free-to-play game on Steam if we release it on that platform.
