Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Various questions about forum email settings

1. I noticed that when I recieve an email from a thread that I have subscribed to, it says at the bottom "(Do not reply to this message)".
Is there an email that I can send to that would post a post to the thread that I subscribed to on behalf of myself?

2. When I get an email from the forums to a topic that I have subscribed to, can I make it email me again if another user posts again? If not, is there a daily digest option? "There may be more new replies, but this is the only notification you will receive until you visit the board again."

3. Is there any way to change the formatting of the email? There's a ton of whitespace, which is nice, but a bit too much and it's a lot of scrolling. Maybe something a bit more compact?

4. Can I set up a forum search that will email me new posts that are in that search result?

5. If I get a PM, and then I get another PM by the same user, will I get two emails or just one if I didn't visit the forums?

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

Nope because the sender is mostly a software and it just won't receive messages.

Do you know of any software that would replicate that functionality?

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

1. No.

2. Can't remember, I'll look into it.

3. Come up with a better template and I could change it.

4. No.

5. You'll get 2.

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

I really like having the forum automatically email me when a thread that I'm interested in recieved a reply, because it allows me to keep up with the discussion and not lose the post.

However, I have a lot of threads that I like, and they're all from the address no-reply (at) forums.everybodyedits.com. Is it possible to send the email from no-reply+[insert unique thread id here] (at) forums.everybodyedits.com?

This would allow:
- a threaded conversation in all email programs
- grouped more logically together.
- star or mute a conversation thread without muting everything
- can be used to see if the title of the topic changes (since the subject can change between the emails since they will be unique)
- be able to archive entire conversation threads, and, make it easier to reply to the email to post to the thread, if it is implemented
- allows one to filter certain topics into different folders, so that they are easier to manage based on sub-forums
- monitor for spam posts

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

Sounds like a decent enough suggestion.

EDIT: Done.

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

I'm having a few problems viewing threaded conversations because the boilerplate template interferes with how my email programs (Thunderbird, Gmail) display the content.

What if we had this template for when a user replied to a post that you subscribed to?

From: <post-author-that-replied-to-the-thread> <thread-id>[email protected] (this entire line would be the from address and would display the replied user's name in the email.)
Subject: Re: <thread-title>
<contents of new post>

You are receiving this because you subscribed to the thread. (whichever one is more relevant.)
You can unsubscribe from the thread, or view it on EEForums.

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

What about the template is interfering with the threading exactly?

Re: Various questions about forum email settings

The one from the forums now: HgOuZQ6.png
The template is always at the top, and it makes it hard to browse through multiple conversations in the same thread. The message that Pingohits posted (most important) is at the bottom while the less important stuff is at the top. It's also a bit verbose.

One from GitHub: jU7jYLl.png
Immediately starts with their message, just like a threaded email would.
