yep, thats the game. You need to figure out who everyone is.

This could involve a lot of inside jokes to try to give clues to that person without giving clues to anyone else

Yeah, I wouldn't know who is who, which would kinda be hard. I could just have every player post "e" in the new topic (so you don't give away who you are, also confirmation that you're playing) and have them pm me their anon names.

If you must:
Give every user an identifying random string. Even five characters would be plenty. Each user posts that. Game mod matches the supplied string to a user's. A fake one means they don't get to play. Using someone else's just doesn't make sense.

EDIT: ok onjit and i discussed this on the IRC and we decided that it'd be smart to have 3 different teams, but only 1 person is the target each night (it rotates between teams). If that person is on your team, you need to convince the others not to lynch that person, (but granted you still dont know their real identity!)

I'll update the OP explaining more

It's a social game with voting, but you vote who you want out of the game rather than hunting someone specific.

Perhaps you are right. "mafia" is the special keyword that garners attention and entices the younguns to play.

At the same time, this would be the closest the forums have gotten to a serious "guess the poster" game. I'd like to see it play out.

Query: What do we do about the inevitable "lurkers"? A slightly more strict prod time? Pick the wrong one and have rampant killing?

I have an issue: I know who diff is automatically because his posts are the only posts in the thread that I don't have the option to edit or delete.

I guess that could just be fixed by me losing my mod powers just in forum games which I'd be fine with, since Secret Rule is kinda dead.
