Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

so, YES, EE's userbase has decreased drastically. i'd say that it's because of the Great Summer Vacation where we didn't have any updates for a year, but there's also the fact that a lot of players have outgrown the game.

always thought the highest ee had was like 1k-1.2k

I feel like we had 3000+ around the peak of guest bombs... so make of that what you will.
Indeed, EE has fallen below the levels of the crappiest of EE remakes. I'd call that irony, but in reality that outcome had to happen.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly what caused the downfall of EE. We veterans try to speculate, but rarely do we consider outside forces. Perhaps advertising (any?) broke off. Perhaps it was too few updates? Perhaps it was too many updates?
Either way, EE is becoming the past. Woo

Everybody edits population will continue to go down because of the "monthly updates" we were promised and how long has it been? Unity isn't a good excuse for our suffering of updates and players.

The truth is, Nonoba.com was responsible for Everybody Edits's large population. When Nonoba got shut down, all the players quit EE, while a small chunk started over at different websites such as Kongregate, Armor Games, Facebook, or the original website itself.
Everybody Edits was one of the "bigger games" at Nonoba, which is why so many people played it.
Hopefully Steam will be able to attract just as many, if not, more.

I doubt people will want to play a sandbox game on steam.

This is the main problem of EE. Replace smileys with little figures, make it a little bit more like a real game, a mature game.
I can't recommend EE to my friends because I am ashamed of it.
At the moment it's a kids game - and it's a pretty bad one, tbh.
It lost over the years all the things it used to be (which is not always bad, but in most of the cases..)

Why not?
IMO, sandbox games aren't a hit nowadays. Mainly shooters and the like.

On side of myself tells me that it's ok, EE will not die soon and being on stream will make grow the community.
But I feel like if i'm still on this game it's just because of the investment I put in thought the years.
Now I just see a community more and more smaller, making more and more forum topics about how the game is more and more dying.
It's a nice way to kill the game faster.
Same as no giving dev' news which give a slakness feeling to the game.

Terraria...?
Every website eventually dies and I think it's ee's time.
