This attack, like many others, has the effect of bringing LBGT solidarity to light. It's a very real tragedy, beyond any politicising that is bound to occur from it.

I regularly hear about mass shootings in the US, is it really that easy to set one up? I can understand "the right to bear arms", but how easy it is to acquire one is ridiculous.

May the 50 dead victims rest in peace, and the 52 injured ones get well quickly.

Guy wanted to make a statement before suicide. He probably disliked homosexuals.

He was a legal gun owner, because apparently the american people need to be able to own automatic firearms in order to rise up against their government (let's ignore the fact that USA spends half a trillion dollars on military every year and has drones, nuclear weapons, etc.).

It was said somewhere that he wasn't a regular practicer of Islam so I doubt his goal was to "die in the name of god". ISIS claimed responsibility, but I doubt they supported him in any way. I'm not surprised to see that IS is using every chance it gets to spread terror.

He was a bad-**** for achieving such a high kill streak though, you gotta give him that. I'm very impressed.

I wouldn't be so sure. There have been shootings in schools, restaurants, subway stations, movie theaters, concerts, workplaces, casinos, etc. and people didn't jump into conclusions so fast. Just because this one time it happened in a gay bar doesn't mean homophobia was the entire reason.

The streets were eerily deserted this morning.

Keep your garbage debates about number of victims/guns/Islam/homophobia. Innocent lives were lost and countless others were scarred permanently. Regardless of precautions that should have been implemented or consequently will be put in place, hate is a strong motivator and those fueled by it will always find a way. </3

It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and spout your political babble regarding the topic, especially for those (easily excitable youngsters) that thrive on conflict and disagreeing with others in a sandbox-gaming forum. Hopefully, with such a tenacious opinion, you're actively participating in efforts to curb gun violence in the U.S. and/or elsewhere.

yeah totally not because this guy is a muslim and literally shot up a GAY bar. he also pledged allegiance to the islamic state. i dont care who you support in the presidential election, this is not a problem of gun distribution

You can't legally obtain automatic firearms in the US. The best you can get is semi-automatic. Also, none of the four articles I looked at said anything about him having an automatic rifle.

Imagine what would have happened if just one other person at the bar was armed and willing to shoot the assailant. There would likely have been fewer than 10 victims.

I understand that the situation is pretty much a catch 22 in the US. Criminals have guns, so citizens need guns for self defense, so criminals easily get guns...

This is Republican jargon. "This isn't an issue about gun distribution" says citizen of only nation where mass shootings regularly happens. Hilarious.
Recently in Sweden a person went on a killing spree. How many did he kill? Only 2. He used a machete. Imagine how many he could have killed if he just legally bought a semi-automatic assault rifle like its possible in many states of the US.

You are right though. This is obviously an issue about Islam and gay people. Only have to fear gun violence if you're in these groups
