Unity lobby design

Hi guys,

We understand that the lobby (more specifically the shop) does not have the greatest design.
The shop is currently difficult to navigate, but with the Unity we'll have a lot more room, and therefore we can greatly improve it.

We would like the community to have a part in designing the new GUI (graphical user interface) for the lobby.
We are open to doing a complete overhaul of the lobby and shop and would like the community to help with the new design

Here is a rough design of what we are currently working with

Well, the layout is quite close to the current one, but here are a few suggestions, that may or may not be useful:
- Slightly taller top bar. Will make clicking easier and allow for bigger text (Also why is there an upper limit for gems? //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile)
- Have the (i) button more spaced from the play button. Misclicks happen.
- Do you have plans for the empty space between the top bar and the main layout? If not, increase the bottom part height for more info displaying

Perhaps move the 'Buy Gems' feature into the shop to free up some space and then have the energy amount on the same line as the text. Also in the empty space at the top 'Everybody Edits' and then number of players and worlds online should be re-added.

the more in x time seems a little too close to the bottom line by a few pixels but it looks like you'd have to resize everything slightly if you did that

and idk it's pretty nice but i'm not a huge fan of all the orange buttons -- though i like the orange text. maybe have a shop item to change the colors idk

The shadows seem too dark

I don't know if the gold next needs to be under the tabs. You could have it as a tool-tip when you hover them.  Just seems cluttered

The energy/gems info seems cluttered. I also think the "Buy Gems" button is a little out of place.

I think the username should stay where it is currently. It frees up a bit of space in the top bar, and I think it looks nicer.

The colors feel too dark (the gold and red). And I think there should be sort of color added to the background of the lists.

The "Sort By:" could be removed, I think. Just have the drop down menu there, and make it the same height as the search bar.

I really like where this is going. The friends/crew area looks soooo much better.

My feelings about this: 'Oh it's one of those free games'.
Idk, but I does just not feel right.
What's wrong with the current one. I like the green buttons. This orange dirty colors just do not look nice //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/sad

I like the logo's in the in menu bar tho (crew, friends, etc).

Btw I want to play this version. You do not that often that worlds are filled with 55 people.

- the "energy: 55555/55555 more in 1:00" thing looks too "packed", well you get it, too much text in a tiny room
- the "buy gems" button could have different color, being the same color as background it is not really noticeable, while it has to be since it's a donate button
- why gems limit
- add favorites, likes, plays and maybe sizes next to "55 online" in worlds list
- add an (i) button next to "Play" buttons that are in friends list maybe?
- the "sort by: Online" thing doesnt seem proportional in size to the other elements on that bar

i think i like this gui

I'm not fan of the grey borders of each square. It's probably because of the black background.
I don't know if you plan to put a picture to replace it or not...

Oh also, all descriptions texts make the lobby confused and saturated, that would be better to have just the name of the tab with the logo (friends, crew...), and when you click on it you can see the description of what this tab is, or maybe no description at all, names only is pretty clear.

Last thing : smileys' friends are very small no ?

The overall design just looks... ugly to me, honestly. The colors aren't nice to look at, the spacing feels awkward, and it feels cluttered. You're moving the game to an entirely new engine, why stick so closely to what we have already, and make it look even worse?

I think the dark gradient around the edges of the buttons looks unnecessary and makes them feel weird. Also, I think the design puts too much emphasis on sharp edges—there is no rounded corner of any kind except on a few of the icons. Simply trimming a pixel off the corners would help.

The contrast of having an "info" icon and a "play" text button gives an odd contrast, so I would suggest trying to think of a "play" icon that could be used to look better (and allow longer world names, as well).

I feel like the gold buttons do not mash well, and the shade of gold chosen is kind of ugly. Currently, the menus are black, with nice contrast with greys for buttons/interactive elements and white for outlines. The completely dark level list looks flat when compared to the current subtle gradient we have now.

The text in the level and friend lists become too close to the outlines (as well as the energy counter on the top, but others have already mentioned that). This makes things look cramped.

I would like to say, however, that having "open" and "mine" as its own tabs was a nice choice, as it is finally consistent. (those are categories, not sorting options!)

Also another suggestion for the empty space is some useful advice or fact.

pretty much everything the last posts said. overly intense shadows, depressingly large amount of black everywhere, weird spacing in general, and any buttons that aren't monochrome stick out like a sore thumb.

So this is what i'd do

buttons can be "logon" "World lobby" "friends" "crews" "inbox" "shop" "campaigns" each of these are little boxes with pictures

if you hit world lobby, you get kinda like the old.everybodyedits.com thing

however: there is a scrollbar, and an icon in each box. campaigns are a certain icon, your own worlds are another, etc. bar on the top of this lobby saying mine, open, favorite, etc.

once you click on a box it takes you to an information popup. It shows a minimap of the world, along with the description, and a big "play!" button. this encourages people to make descriptions. minimap doesn't need to be included if the setting is off in the world of course.

as for shop: heres a little feature atilla suggested in the irc:

you get to choose 1 smiley right when you start playing ee. then people can start buying blocks (no big spender duh)

blocks arent sooooo many block backs like we have but grouped into bundles. winter, summer, hazard, liquids, etc. then people can have blocks faster

so yeah i guess
