Palmito Quest

PALMITO QUEST

Hello !
Finally after approximatly a week of building I have finish this level, which was a nice building challenge. As you may know, I like add to the level creation little challenges, like the perma-bot or the limited block challenge. I was thinking about new challenges to change my way of building a level, and this idea came : the area mode. The concept is simple : you split your level in areas, you start by choosing a random one. Once you finished it, you choose the next one randomly too. The important fact is that you can place block only in the area where you are working.
So I did it in a massive world, and the construction was really funny and interesting.
So now, try to find the Palmito's gem in this weird land ! Good luck

As I said, I use the area mode :
I can't modify outside the current area, once the area done, I choose randmly the next one.

I started by split my level in 64 squares, with a size of a small world 25x25.

Like that I can easily plan all the level with lines (1 to 8) and columns (A to H).
So I created a randomniser to choose manually next box I'll edit little by little.

To add me more challenge, I decided to attribute difficulty to each squares, randomly.

After this step, I was able to create a plan of my level like this :

So I started, here the evolution :

I can say that there are three steps in the area mode :
The first one is when you start to randmly edit squares, you don't really think about the art around your area, about the path...
When there is at least the half of the areas done, the building puzzle start to appears. You'll little by little imagine potential ways inside your level, try to make the art fit better... Less areas you'll have, more interesting it'll be.
The last step is the funniest one : the final path creation.
I use the capasha's minimap bot to see all the level, and I started to imagine differents paths possibilities. The goal was to make the shortest one, visiting all zones, and having a difficulty curve the more appropriate as possible.

After that I disobyed to my own rule by placing coins and coin doors, and the level was done !

This is a fantastic build concept, and the level looks like it will be an amazing play.
