Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

breaking news: ee is spiraling into oblivion

my opinion:
stop fighting first of all, no matter what you think about this
take a deep breath
think about the fact that this is over a flash game about building worlds with pixel smilies. i know people say that a lot, but really, think about it
realize none of this matters
be content with life

Re: Moderation Of EE

Isn't this what I've been saying... FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS? And no one has listened to me?

It's about time this issue has been brought up, but... sadly, it's far too late. As you can tell just from the people on this forum, people don't want to change. They just want to say whatever they want, whenever they want. Well, here's some information for you:

YAHOO GAMES GUIDELINES

Last updated 28 August 2014

If you choose to use the Services offered under the Yahoo Games Network TOS, you must comply with the following guidelines. Yahoo may change these guidelines at any time. Unless otherwise specified, capitalized terms used in these guidelines will have the meanings given them in the Yahoo Games Network TOS.

1. Your Game and associated content may not engage in or contain the following:
- Illegal content or activity
- content that infringes a third-party’s intellectual property, publicity or privacy rights
- Sexually-explicit or obscene content
- Prostitution or escort services
- Advocacy against an individual, organization or group based on: race, ethnicity, national origin, color, religion, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, any other legally protected status
- Online gambling with real currency (social gambling permitted)
- Unmoderated user-generated content
- Harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing content
- Politically-sensitive content
- Peer-to-peer or file-sharing content
- Unsolicited advertising (e.g., spam)
- Tune-in messaging, overlays, bumpers, stings, hash tags, or other extraneous marketing or promotional elements
- interfere with, disrupt, or access without permission, any device, server, network or other property, service or data of Yahoo or any third party
- content that is deceptive, misleading, fraudulent, or is designed to phish or perform identity theft
- expose Yahoo to any harm or legal liability
- disable, block, disregard or circumvent any Yahoo feature or functionality, settings, or technical measures instituted by Yahoo (e.g., advertising, security measures, privacy settings, other user settings)
- computer code or script (including Javascript) designed to disrupt, erase, disable, harm, or otherwise impede the user or his/her data or computer/device
- distribute virus, worms, trojans, adware, malware or spyware
- fraudulent impressions and clicks
- Inappropriately offensive content, as reasonably determined by Yahoo

So basically, this game has been disregarding the Yahoo Games TOS for a long time. Therefore, I decided that the next people to decide what should happen to the game shouldn't be you, but Yahoo.

I've emailed Yahoo Games Network with dozens of images of content on this game that violate the TOS and mods/admins simply looking away or even joining in. I've requested that this game be taken off the Yahoo Games Backend Servers permanently.

It really is quite sad. When you removed the promise of the game being "a family-friendly environment", you removed any hope of it being successful ever again.

Goodbye everyone. Enjoy the rest of your lives.

Re: Moderation Of EE

You do realise that the Yahoo! Games TOS only exists for liability purposes.

>When you removed the promise of the game being "a family-friendly environment", you removed any hope of it being successful ever again.
Your account on EE was registered 01 May 2012, which is MrShoe era. You have no concept of why or how Everybody Edits was successful in the first place.

Chris Benjaminsen had moderators but they didn't going around banning people left right and center for swearing.

Re: Moderation Of EE

I think that it is clear that a user is not okay with something when they report someone, and it's at that point that it stops being "just a joke". I don't think they should be banned if they didn't mean to hurt the person, but if it was clearly toxic and not funny at all then maybe the perpetrator should banned or chatbanned for a day, or a few days. When this kind of ban is not appropriate, perhaps there needs to be some sort of warning or strike to tell them to stop. We have an inbox now, so just use that.

I have a feeling there aren't clear rules or guidelines for moderation. Things like: in what situation should someone be banned, where is a chatban appropriate, how long should they be banned, what about repeated offences, etc. If you do have these kinds of guidelines, then I would like there to be more transparency. If not, make some. And then tell us about them. I remember you made an attempt at transparency when you made a post about the roles of each member of staff (and some other stuff probably) because I'm guessing people were concerned about "useless mods" or something. Now that there is a concern about moderation, perhaps there should be another post like that. Personally, I think this is the best course of action, because not only does it help the community understand how moderation works without making assumptions, but it even allows us to make suggestions to improve moderation in EE.

Re: Moderation Of EE

im gonna be serious right now. there is no point in discussing this. the mods have shown that they are not willing to change, nor will they follow or enforce the rules they have put in place themselves. unless we talk directly with the mods, whether or irc, this entire topic is pointless.

Re: Moderation Of EE

Build a wall between beta and non-beta! Have non-beta pay 1c to chat. Have the option to disable chat filter beta-exclusive or 1c exclusive only. This prevents players from "alt stalking". Also, make IP muting a thing. Basically, players can mute players completely through IP, so none of that player's alts can be heard.

Also make it possible to hide the chat UI. Not only can players be able to calm down if the chat is pressing them, but it can allow for more space and less distraction when building or playing worlds in Everybody Edits.

Re: Moderation Of EE

to take the moderator's job there have to be responsible active and serious people
but ee is a flash game and theres no such people
nou has mentioned that they will try to bring back some of ee veterans
maybe that will make some responsible active and serious people come back as well

Re: Moderation Of EE

Being removed as a moderator, or being banned from the game, does not give you permission to flame, harass, and be uncivil towards me. It also does not take away the truth behind what I'm saying.

Mutings/kicking is not an excuse for you to flame, harass, and be uncivil towards others.

Paying for chat does not magically get rid of all the problems. There still needs to be moderation. It doesn't matter that they voluntarily paid for it, they aren't the ones at fault here.

You're not a martyr, stop acting like that. This topic is not about you, as much as you would have wished.

So far the only thing you did was repeating the same complaints, which, alongside with the fact that you wooted AK712's subversive post, shows that you only seek to provoke the admins.

So what will?

JaWapa wrote:

Yeah, we understand, but how can we achieve that?

Then whose fault is that, and what should we do about it?

...He's not making it about himself tho?

Also, as a general, he was banned for stealing gems and all that, not for inappropriate language and such that we're discussing now. Idk why people keep referring to that when thsoe are two completely different cases.

of course you'd say that. it's advantageous for you.
ok but he's letting them break the rules
i have a lot of friends on the forums but if you break rules, you broke them. sorry.

there's um... i don't know if you're aware, but there's a difference between someone being banned for a few days and learning their lesson and being banned for a year.

Kira wrote:

Quick question: Are you guys hunting for drama to fill that satisfaction of yours?

As for integrating... I've tried and I usually end up getting insulted oh but wait i'm such a sensitive little flower i need to grow up boo hoo or something. personal attacks aren't ok imo

And hi, I'm a mod, my job is to take posts seriously. Things that aren't appropriate for the forums aren't appropriate. I don't care if it's a joke. It's known that I'm a no fun allowed mod.

also yes.

Ben wrote:

This entire topic practically serves as a comfortable platform to go "Oh, since I'm not a mod anymore but hold a grudge against you, I'm gonna make a huge drama". I bet he would have never made that topic if he were still a staff member.

Okay so let me tell you a thing:
Nou is never going to listen to Jawapa on anything. Because Nou is stubborn and, in my experience, sees people in black and white. So Nou's not going to listen even if Jawapa were trying to use private means for this.

If Jawapa were a staff member, of course he wouldn't post it. He could mention it in the chats staff has. (also... in this hypothetical Jawapa-is-still-a-mod-verse, the reports would be taken care of. Jawapa may have stolen from the game and maybe been a TAD bit too harsh, but he actually modded...)

True, but those options are available for situations where there is simply not enough moderation.

I still like the part where you guys are blaming the moderators for the toxic community yet at the same time promote the behavior by putting the trolls under the spotlight and giving them the attention they've wanted. The only way the community is going to get fixed is if the community itself fixes it. That is the end game. Moderators are just there to guide the users in the right direction ln making the community better. Even if they do a really crappy job at doing this you guys seem to know the right direction but refuse to point others in that same direction.

You guys can complain that the moderation is doing a bad job at moderating and I'm ok with that, but if you guys solely expect them to fix the community for you then you guys deserve the community you have now. I agree with what @ben said. Maybe if you guys spent that amount of time you've wasted complaining into something useful like solutions on how moderation can be better then the problem can be solved much faster.

What solutions do you propose the community puts into action?

Sorry about the delay. I do have solutions, but didn't have the time at the moment to write them out. The big thing that we as a community can do without the mod help is to discourage the bad behavior and more importantly, don't promote it! If you see another user acting up in a way that doesn't fit with the guidelines, kindly tell them to stop. If they don't just report them and mute and move on. If you see a user harassing another user tell that person to stop and if they don't maybe talk to the person who is being harassed and encourage him to report ant mute that person. In general if you know a person who is being rude and obnoxious and you know they aren't going to stop just don't pay attention to him. Hopefully they'll get board when they can't get a reaction and just move on. If you see someone not happy with those people in chat tell them to do the same.

What is definitely important is that you DON'T FEED THE TROLLS in any circumstances what so ever. All they care about is getting a rise out of you for being a jerk and when you do that it promotes them from doing it. This rule is so basic it's sad to see that you have a forum mod and a former EE mod ignoring this part and putting these trolls in the spotlight and giving them the attention they want. Then turn around and blame the moderation for doing such poor job of taking care of them when they're feeding them. They are just as bad as the trolls themselves.

Telling the devs to add new mods to EE is something that's easy said than to be done. Especially when one of them have broken their trust making it harder to trust a new person to do it. They could do better themselves though by staying on top of things and getting issues taken care of to the best of their ability, but in the end it's up to the community to do the best we can in shaping the community for the better. If we don't, why complain about the current community if we don't care about it ourselves.
