"Allow switches to have 3 digits!" No, I have an easier alternative.

We can currently use up to 100 switch ids in one world. Nice, but for some it's not enough. Some people think we should have 3 digit switches which allow for up to 1000 switch ids.

BUT I have a more effective method and probably an easier one; Who said they had to be in base 10? I think it would be easier to let switches display not only 0-9 but also A-Z, so switches would be in base 36 (hexatridecimal). This allows for almost 1300 ids in 2 digits!!

You might be thinking, "Most people can't do base 36 though." You don't really do any maths with switches though, you just have numbers, if you need to do maths with them (to find out how many switches you need I guess), you can use a base converter (easy to find one that goes up to 36).

I just thought about something. If the limit of coin/death gates/doors were raised (which they really should be) 999, this would create an inconsistency. Why not use the more familiar base 10 system and just make the limit 999 to be consistent?

I had already suggested this to two of the mods, so they should already have this in mind.
It would be very useful though, the more ids the better for storing data, for logic gates as well.

I've also heard that the font size could be reduced to fit 3 digits, however the legibility obviously decreases.

Would letters like S, O and Q have to be removed, because they look too similar to numbers (and Q is too big)?

There is little inappropriate things people can use with only 2 letters.  Most of them are just abbreviations.

no, both letters go up to Z,
so it goes 0, 1, 2, ... 9, A, B, C, ... Z, 10, 11, 12, ... 1A ...... 9Z, A0, ... ZZ

I'm assuming you can do things like [Z 2] and [2 Z]. That way there would be even more combinations available.

Yes, you can also have Z for the first digit, so it ends at ZZ and not 9Z.

base 10: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
base 36: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z
As with base10 we're all used to, you can combine the digits (numbers AND letters) to make bigger numbers in base36 too so for example making number 25 in base10 takes 2 characters (2 and 5), while in base36 its just P - one character

You mean to have a base other than a power of two? Blasphemy!

Also, I've tried explaining things like base 16 and base 64 to normies before, and almost none of them understand it. For some reason, there is some dissonance in their mind when it comes to representing numbers with letters.
