Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Nah, none of this is happening. Its all fake.
Proc posted "No" but probably realized that this might be an issue so redacted his post, which is different from how he handled the last thread lrussel made on EE's death.
So there might be reason to worry.

I was being sarcastic.
How much is EE spending on Yahoo Game Networks at this moment?
Everybody edits, but some edit more than others

tl;dr: It appears the pricing model for Player.IO has changed because it was bought by the Games Platform Company. EE could be doomed because I doubt the game will fit into anything less than the Pro plan which costs $500 monthly!
[Edit: Rewrote my post.]
In 2010 EE used more than 6 terabyte a month. ("more than 6TB")
Similar message in 2012 here. (about 200GB a day = about 6TB)
Even if it's a lot less nowadays, this still does not look good...
I have permanently left the game and forum.
EE is an entertaining game and I enjoyed playing it...

Here's what probably is going to happen:
- The Great Purge: EE will begin to make many many worlds read-only, or delete them. EE will allow users to download their worlds if they are going to be deleted. This will free up a bunch of space, since many many rooms on EE haven't been played for many years. Moreover, the thousands of home worlds can be greatly compressed, saving a ton of space. This will allow EE to fit these worlds into, hopefully, 50mb. If not, a separate CDN completely unrelated to PlayerIO might have to be used.
- Consolidation: the new requirements state that you can only have 25,000 BigDB objects. In this case, there might have to be 40 worlds per object (assuming that there is a million worlds after The Great Purge.) This would cause many, if not all, of the world deserializers to break, since you would have to download 40 worlds to get one.
- PayVault: EE has to pay 0.05 per successful transaction, so we probably won't be using PayVault, as this could be very expensive. Or, the transactions could be logged, and run every day or so, trying to compress it into one transaction. Another solution will be devised, but will be a little clunky.
- Game Traffic: this might make EE have to upgrade to the "Plus" plan where you can have 100GB of traffic. Since EE uses ~200GB per day, about half of it has to be discarded, or compressed.
I can see EE upgrading to the Plus plan, as it's only $24.95 a month, much much cheaper than the Pro plan ($500 a month). EE might go into a you-can-only-play-if-you-have-a-membership thing, in order to cover these costs. It's doubtful that there will be enough memberships to cover $500/month, though.
Or, someone can figure out how to use the PlayerIO development server to work with public deployments. In this case, someone could theoretically run PlayerIO on their very powerful VPS. This would mean there's a single point of failure, though, and there'd be a ton of traffic.

Did Cape Copenhagen sell EE to NVD who then sold it to Nou?
This new "The Games Platform Company" company was actually founded by the former CEO of Cape Copenhagen.
If he remembers EE fondly, maybe Nou can get a good deal?

I'm going to talk to Brian and see if we can arrange something. Once there's any actual news to report I will do so.
Either way we'll look into a solution to keep everything going.
