It's a bug.
I cleared and loadleveled my world and the minimap became white like a BGcolor, even though I set it to no BGcolor. I rejoined and it went back to normal.
This is a false statement.

Look, it's back.
When you click "save" after putting a name, it changes in a random color.
I can confirm it, I was at his world when it happened.
