Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Sup eeforums,
What naming themes/schemes do you use for your computer hostnames?
Back when I only had one computer, its hostname was TFco (a remnant of my middle school days). Then, when I got a laptop, my desktop's hostname was Colinthea and my laptop's hostname was Alheria (more middle school stuff). Now that I've got two more laptops, my desktop is Kyouko, my laptop is Sayaka, and my two Thinkpads are Madoka and Homura (and my phone is Mami, but that doesn't matter so much).
What schemes do you guys use?

It doesn't matter but it sure helps if you're connecting computers over LAN to copy files or something. "BestBurrito" is a lot easier to remember than "192.168.1.25"
I name them after Taco Bell food items. This computer I'm sitting at rn is "BossWrap", the laptop I gave to my sister was "AMCrunchWrap", my old desktop was "Quesarito", and my old old desktop was "Beefy5Layer".

I used to name them simply "PC", then I realised that when you have "PC" all over your LAN it becomes a huge mess to recognize the good one. Also, the android-<insert random large hex code> things cause the same problem, because I'm not going to take everyone of my guests' phones to rename 'em

Right, I forgot my phone. My phone is now Doritos.

My PC admin's account is just my surname and nothing else. If it's required I just use it as "PC-[my-IRL-surname-even-though-you-can't-stalk-me-through-it-and-i-think-it's-a-cool-surname-uuh-i'm-not-going-to-include-it-here].
Unless you meant actually naming your devices IRL like if they were your pets or something, personally that sounds very cringey for me.

He means hostname, which basically is a name for the computer like you said, but it has a purpose. If you had a file server on your home WiFi network, other devices connected to the same network can connect to your computer using the local IP or the hostname. If you do any file sharing or connecting if any kind between devices, it's a lot easier to remember "Quesarito" than to have to look up and remember "192.168.1.42".

What exactly is the "Default?" Or do you literally mean "Default?"

That's pretty baller, fam.

This tbh fam (ngl);

I can't wait to live off campus. On the campus network my machines don't resolve each others' hostnames (and I don't want to bother with dnsmasq on my desktop).

Eeek. I'm not rich enough to own multiple devices like you all and too lazy to do that kind of thing anyway.

Well I don't even use LAN so I'm fine

What I mean is the one it comes with without anybody changing it. But "Default" is good too.

Unless your computer is directly connected to WAN (and has an internal modem), you do indeed use LAN.

Lol I'm not even rich. Most of these I got for free (laptop), or crazy cheap (old desktop), 15 years ago (old old desktop), or after saving up money for a long time (new desktop). But yeah naming your computer is definitely a textbook #FirstWorldProblem, or maybe it's #JustLinuxThings since most linux distros will ask you for a hostname while installing, while Windows and OS X assume that you want "WIN-AEWRGOIAHEOGI" or "YourNameHere's-MacBook.local".
