Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I can install windows with an External optical drive right?
I'm buying a case that doesn't have a location for drives (other than Harddrives and SSDs obviously) so I plan to buy an external drive
This is the case:
EDIT:
Please move this to questions and answers, I forgot that place existed
Maverick: Started up on a 6, when he pulled from the clouds, and then I moved in above him.
Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Because I was inverted.

Yep

Yes, you can. It would be a good idea just to have a small SSD for the OS, and a separate HDD/SSD for everything else for optimal performance.

I was thinkin about getting an SSD, but it turns out my motherboard actually has a feature where you can isolate part of the memory to be used just like an SSD. You essentially can create a virtual SSD on your motherboard through the BIOS so I'm probably just gonna do that for super high start up speeds. I can supposedly get speeds 10x faster than with a standard SSD doing that.

Just get an SSD like a sensible person.

I don't quite understand how segmenting your memory as an SSD would work and how it would work if your power was disconnected - could I have a link to your motherboard?
Also, it'll be worth the $100

I installed Windows 10 from a USB drive I think that worked out pretty well. They're faster to make than a CD and you can reuse them afterwards

I see, I see; it basically packs your memory with everything it thinks might be useful and you can't just say "I want this to be an SSD" (because that's not how memory works). Get an SSD, they're cheaper than memory anyway.

If you already have another PC, just connect your drive to that computer, install windows and move the drive back.
I never understood cases when you can look into the computer. I'm like... how can you even concentrate when you got all these spinning fans around yourself.
I have never thought of programming for reputation and honor. What I have in my heart must come out. That is the reason why I code.

For the window panel, I want to put blue LEDs inside it to make it look all spiffy. There is a version of that case that comes with a solid, nonwindowed side panel as well
I dont' think it'll be that distracting esp cuz it's going to be placed off to the side next to my monitor

I agree, mine has a small panel on the side and I've neatly taped a few layers of paper over the screen from the inside to block my graphics card lights; and my computer is on the floor and way off to the side to just get out of my face (it's on some wood and dust collection is minimal as I have filters and no case fans pointing downwards.
I have the NZXT 530 (chosen for motherboard size fitting (smallest case that could fit the largest motherboard) and price) - it's a nice looking case but I'm so glad I don't have to look at it all day every day. My computer is never off so I could just stick it in a wall and never touch it.

I haven't installed an OS using an optical drive in about 6 years. I usually use a USB stick, but with my most recent OS install, I actually just copied the contents of the installation ISO to the hard drive and made it bootable, and then installed from that. It worked pretty well.

install gentoo
I don't know if Gentoo is the best Linux distribution to pick when giving Linux a try for the first time.
Personally, I would suggest Linux Mint, with its Cinnamon environment.
Gentoo with its non-pre-compiled packages may be more geeky, but perhaps not the most user-friendly.
Then again, http://www.linuxmint.com/ is down right now and https://www.gentoo.org/ is not.
But yeah, if you like tinkering with new programs and environments, are wondering what Linux is like, and don't mind running into a ton of problems that you may or may not be able to fix, why not give Linux a try.
I have permanently left the game and forum.
EE is an entertaining game and I enjoyed playing it...
...but it's time for me to move on.
