Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: Zika

Zika doesn't only affect women, also men. It also has other symptoms besides causing birth defects. Everyone needs to know about the virus, otherwise, are you really going to see a doctor when the symptoms become visible? Are you going to do everything to prevent people around you getting infected?

Public opinion goes a long way towards preventing diseases like this one turn into pandemics.
It is silly to say that you should not / cannot care because there is nothing you can do, because you can.
No matter where you live, you could donate money to many nonprofit organizations (including those who helped when ebola broke out).

Remember how google managed to raise $7.5 million dollars (and matched the donations 1:1 itself) to fight ebola? https://onetoday.google.com/page/fightebola

There was also a lot of action from governments around the world which wouldn't get done if the people living in those countries simply did not care.
There are a lot of doctors who went to work in the troubled areas that helped treat and educate the patients at the time. It is very important to appreciate the work of these doctors. I have met a few people who worked in the fields and from what I've heard the working conditions were far from optimal.

I heard a lot about ebola, I don't know why you haven't. There are still no vaccines available for ebola, but we are almost there. You can check the status of ebola here: http://www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/en/

Re: Zika

There has been found a link between Zika and the Guillain-Barre syndrome - which is where a body's immune system attacks the protein surrounding nerves, and the same way with electrical wires without coatings touch the signal is disrupted functions stop working properly; normally it affects limbs first before it affects vitals such as lungs.
