Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

That is an alternate use of the word "soup" to indicate a trait of something rather than a substance.

yeah we can consider cereal an alternate use of word soup too

"Cereal" is not a use of the word "soup."
Describing cereal as a soup, however, uses the primary and most common definition of the word "soup" and applies it to cereal, the dish.

because milk =/= water

Milk is primarily comprised of water. 80+%, as stated previously (and about 87%, according to U of Illinois).
In fact, I would wager to say that most potable liquids have water as a base.

Soups require a stock or base. Cereal has milk which is not AT ALL a stock or base.

Most definitions do not specify that a soup is exclusively prepared in stock or base. Most definitions settle for "liquid" or "water."

Ok then. Cereal is a salad and milk is the dressing.

Actually, most definitions of salad specifically state that the base ingredient is a raw vegetable, a raw green vegetable, etc. So no.

Actually, some definitions simply specify the liquid part, with meat or vegetables as an optional ingredient. Again, would you say that tomato soup is not soup because it does not necessarily contain any meat or vegetables?

It doesn't have to be a vegetable. Tuna salad, macaroni salad, etc.

I suppose you're right, though I would still say that cereal is closer to a soup than a salad. One typically doesn't consume salad with more dressing than green, leaft (or tuna/macaroni) bits.

Nope. The tomato is a fruit.

Vegetables are quite diverse. Tell me, without specifics, what does "a vegetable" taste like?

Do you mean sweet, perhaps? Limes are less sweet than most fruits. Lemons, similarly. Mangoes are sometimes sour (less sweet than most fruits). Etc. Yet all three of these things are fruits. I looked it up.

Even if your poll were fair, it still wouldn't "settle" the issue. It would just show us what peoples' opinions are.
