Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

are hotdogs sandwiches

this is a legitimate debate

i kind of think they are, because there's bread on either side of it. technically, there's more bread covering it than a normal sandwich because three sides are touching the hotdog

my father says they aren't unless they're cut in half because then you'd use two slices of bread, but then there's such a thing as definitely sandwiches that use only one piece of bread.

Re: are hotdogs sandwiches

There's nothing to debate.

Are hoagies sandwiches? Yes.
Are submarine sandwiches actually sandwiches? Yes.
Are hamburgers sandwiches? Yes.

There is no reason for a hotdog to not also fall under the category of sandwich given the preceding considerations.

hotdogs are not sandwiches since there is only one piece of bread involved

A hot dog, a cooked sausage, traditionally grilled or steamed and served in a sliced bun as a sandwich

see, that was my initial thought too, but there are plenty of ways to have sandwiches with only one piece of bread; in fact, i prefer to eat tuna salad sandwiches with only one piece. it's still a sandwich even tho there's only half the amount of bread.
hmm

i think it's one of those things that, initially, you'd say it's not because that's dumb, but when u think about it ur like
holy cow
a hotdog is a sandwich

so are tacos

Are they though? They have a crunchy corn shell, and the contents aren't in between soft bread.

By that logic, Subway doesn't sell sandwiches.

Of the ~14 Subways I've been to in 4 different states, not one has ever cut the bread all the way through.

Re: are hotdogs sandwiches

"an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal."
Given that qualification (and the knowledge that certain sandwiches are not made with two distinct pieces of bread, but one roll cut down the middle), I'd have to say that yes, a hotdog (with bun) is a sandwich. This also qualifies tacos as such, but I'm super salty about that.

Yes. If you use one piece of bread and fold it over it still counts as a sandwich. So a hotdog is a sandwich too.

A sandwich is a really vague term. Hot dogs are, however, sandwiches.

Re: are hotdogs sandwiches

It depends on your definition of a sandwich. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, it could have two definitions, either one being satisfied:
Def. 1: "two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between"

Which, in this case the filling in the hot dog and the shape is a split roll.

However, in Anak's attached photograph of a hotdog on top of a slice of bread, it could still be called a sandwich:
Def. 2: "one slice of bread covered with food"

In this case, covered is a term that needs to be defined, because in the photograph the slice of bread is not completely covered with the hotdog.

The closest definition that would match this would be the first definition,
Def. 1: "to put something over, on top of, or in front of (something else) especially in order to protect, hide, or close it"

According to this definition, Anak's photograph does qualify as a sandwich, as the hot dog is in front of (on top of) the slice of bread.

Pizza is also a sandwich.
