Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Now, I'm not into the mainstream pop music that is constantly being played on the radio, so no pop artists will be on this list.
Now to the good bit. I'll post my thoughts on each of these bands/artist and I'll post a link to some of their songs worth mentioning. Bare in mind, most of these artists, I tend to stick to an album.
Songs worth mentioning:
The Only Thing – Carrie and Lowell
Death by Dignity – Carrie and Lowell
John, My Beloved – Carrie and Lowell
Sufjan Stevens is one of my current favourites, alongside some of the other artists and bands mentioned below. A lot of his songs are based around his current social circle. In particular his newest album, Carrie and Lowell, pays tribute to his parents. His mother passed away not too long before the album was released, and one of his songs (not mentioned) dedicates himself to the relationship he had with his mother. A lot of his songs experiment with your feelings and are quite sombre. However, quite a few of the songs are very similar to each other, which creates quite a blandness to it, but with Stevens' works, it succeeds. Props to him.
Songs worth mentioning:
Ellipse – In Silence We Yearn
Drones – In Silence We Yearn
This Is Not The End – Resistance Is Futile
Oh, Hiroshima! Definitely one to look out for in the near future. Their post-rock music is just great. At times, they do use vocals, and when they do, it just works. Everything seems to blend in perfectly to create the sort of powerfulness or security. As with post-rock music, it is uncommonly heard throughout the songs. Each song isn't too fast paced, however, it's not too slow to avoid tediousness. Just sucks that "This Is Not The End" doesn't just fade into the abyss, rather abruptly stops.
Songs worth mentioning:
Kings Meadow – The Hawk Is Howling
Until recently, I've never listened to this band, and boy, do I regret only finding about them now and not before. Their work is just a masterpiece, I've been listening to "The Hawk Is Howling" for several hours. A mate and I even used the album as a background music for one of our random gameplay binges. Just check them out.
Songs worth mentioning:
Title Theme – A Bird Story
Ending Theme – To the Moon
Okay, I really love soundtracks. They are one of my favourite genres of music (I'm pretty sure they are a genre on their own), and Kan Gao is one of my favourite composers for a video game, perhaps right next to Jesper Kyd, composer of the Assassin's Creed series. Each soundtrack fits into the game perfectly, and so serenely. One of his greater works is the "To the Moon" game, and each scene of the game comes with very interesting and appropriate music to accompany it with. "A Bird Story" was also one of his greater works, particularly the title theme.
Songs worth mentioning:
Hoppípolla – Takk...
Sigur Rós is one of the older bands I've listened to. No comment. Close your eyes and let their music drift you into a whole new world.

Sufjan and Mogwai have been on my to do list for a while. I haven't heard any of their songs, but I do remember the release of Rave Tapes. Mogwai seem a bit more, uh, psychedelic, from an outside impression? I think I have a remix trade of them with Body Language but I can't remember. Sufjan I'm a bit more familiar with, like Carrie and Lowell and also Illinoise.

No worries, man.

Yeah, you're right. Mogwai is more psychedelic rock.
I've been planning in listening to Illinoise for a while now. A friend of mine said it was their favourite album from Stevens, so that's been on my to-listen list for a while now.
Anyway, Sigur Rós added onto the list. Give them a listen.

I think it's pretty different from what he's done before, it's a lot more chilled out, but I think if you like what he's done before then you should like the newer stuff.
Just sucks that "This Is Not The End" doesn't just fade into the abyss, rather abruptly stops.
Listening to their album -- that's because it's a from concept album, it leads into the next song
I like it a lot, by the way. Huge fan of post-rock.

Ah, didn't manage to get my hands on the album, so yeah...that was the only song I knew from the album.

I guess I'll take this moment to also plug my Song of the Day thread that I've been running for some time now. I try my best to keep it varied but it's mostly chill and alternative. I don't repeat artists too much though (just when they go under different names) so it does span quite a bit of styles.
Still need to post a song for today... I've gone through most of my favorite artists so it's becoming harder for me to choose what to post each day. Spotify's discover weekly playlist is incredible though so that helps quite a bit

Kinda wish there'd be little descriptions for each band mentioned, saying what you like about them etc. Like OP's post.. gives people more incentive to check out a band.
Though I guess that's understandable, suddenly writing up a short essay on a whim.
By the way, a funny little thing with Sufjan Stevens. You know on the Illinoise cover they had to take out Superman because of copyright infringement?
For the albums 10th anniversary a little while ago, Marvel got to put their own superhero on the repress cover, a little way to troll their fellow comic book company.
