I have 6 cats and 1 dog. You can imagine my answer to this question.

It's hard to compare because dogs are so wildly different from each other, but in general I've found that dogs
1. Are more obnoxious (personality wise)
2. Can't use a litter box, so you have to let them out all the time.
3. Can't use an automatic feeder, because they'd eat all the food in one sitting.
4. Smell worse because they're outside all the time.
5. Are louder.
6. Are less relaxing to pet.

Whereas cats are only inferior in a couple ways. Cats are generally:
1. Less interesting
2. More work (litter box)

Again, I know there are plenty of exceptions. Think of the stereotypical dog/cat here. And if you can find a dog that isn't any of those, then the dog you are talking about is actually a cat.

There are some factors to consider, like family and whether the person lives in a house or an apartment, but in general, I:
prefer dogs, but if I had to choose, I would pick a cat because they are more independent and are a better pest control. (dogs may offer some security, but cameras and alarms may do a better job)

I'd choose Dogs over Cats, you can do more with them. All cats do is lay around and cough up fur balls everywhere.

from my personal experience, i've lived 12 years somewhere far from the center of Belgrade with lots of owned dogs, i even had a dog when i was little, and 1 year with a cat that's older than me and not in cat years (14)

dogs are extremely loud by barking (mostly in the middle of the night) and can't use the litter box, but they can eat whatever is given to them.
i'm sick and tired stepping in dog poo every other day, i blame the owner for that. owners should clean up after their dog if taken outside.
cats aren't as loud, are intelligent enough to use the litter box and are not as demanding.

In my conclusion, i think cats > dogs.
