Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: mac, pc or linux

Between just the two, I'm gonna go Mac OS. It's at least Unixlike (or used to be). At least, it's more like Unix than Windows, so that's an automatic win in my book.

Linux.

I don't care about software support. If your software doesn't run on my operating system, I won't support your software.
For the most part.

Re: mac, pc or linux

Strictly between the two, I'd pick windows. Basically every major program is guaranteed to run on windows, and windows PCs beat out macs as far as performance per dollar goes, at least with deskop computers. Higher cost, less software, and less performance, the only thing I see as good about macs is that they're unix-like at heart which is kinda nice sometimes. Windows's terminal is absolutely awful and I hate it.

Re: mac, pc or linux

I'm not a big computer nerd so I can't base my decision on technicalities, but I much prefer mac.

I have a macbook pro right now, I've had it going on four years. Have had minimal issues, and since I live by an apple store it's very easy to schedule an appointment to sort things out. Of course, I only use my computer for academics and social media.

However, it is kind of upsetting that now I'm starting to get into Steam and a lot of quality games are not always available for Mac.

Other than software though, I also prefer the mac user interface. It's very visually oriented. I like having all my icons on the bottom in a bar compared to a start menu, and finder makes files very easy to access.

Windows. It is one of the earliest and the most popular.

If you don't really like how programs are normally Windows=targeted, you could try downloading and installing a Windows emulator that allows .exe files to run, such as Wine. It solves a lot of issues along the lines of games, but terminal/console based applications won't run.

Mac in my opinion isn't horrible, but I prefer Windows.

Wine supports console based applications. I used one through wine a month or so ago when I couldn't be bothered to reboot to Windows just to run the one application.

I might need to update, then. I do have a Mac OS computer, and Wine doesn't work with console apps. I tried and nothing happened. Maybe I just need to update, or I'm confusing it with another application type.

are you actually running them through the console? I've never WINEd on OS X but on linux you can just wine whatever.exe from a terminal and it works. And for cases when it doesn't work I hear there are a few other bits included with WINE that are more specifically tailored to consoles and text mode like wineconsole and I think one more. I don't think WINE will open up a console for you if you run a text mode application.

Also if linux is an option in this topic then I'd like to change my answer to that. It may not support as much as windows, and it may not have as many of the big proprietary programs like Photoshop that both OS X and Windows have, but I love that I can set up everything to look and work the way I want it, and I love having the freedom to trash anything I don't like and replace it with an alternative. And it's fun being able to change the entire face of your computer with just a few clicks. With the other two, if there's something you don't like you have to suck it up and deal with it. They're not bad though and they're nice enough if you can work with whatever Apple or Microsoft decides to give you.

Weird. AFAIK it shouldn't use much more CPU than running it natively on windows but I'm not an expert on WINE.

Or anything for that matter.

In your case here, I guess that Wine just runs differently on different platforms. I'm also no Wine expert, but on my Macintosh computer it will not allow Windows console applications to run. Nothing happens. I could probably do a little more research into it to find out exactly why. Next time I have my mac in hand, which it's not at my house right now, I'll check the Wine logs, find the problem, and make a godawful attempt to fix it. Text mode applications are not the same as console applications, which I found images for below:

Console app
Text mode app

Those are just google images results.
The first one is the one I'm referring to - It will not open up.

It depends. I judge operating systems by their privacy or lack thereof.
Which means, Mac OS X is better than Windows 10, however worse than Windows 8.1.

Why is macOS worse than Windows 8.1?
macOS / OS X come in versions too. I don't see the connection element you made.
