Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I don't use absolutely anything.
I use Ubuntu, a very secure GNU/Linux distribution.

Re: Which security software and privacy tools do you guys use?

I have used AVG, but someone said that AVG it's horrible.

So then I just use Malwarebytes.

I don't go and shady websites either. But Anti-Exploit is needed. And software updater tool.

Btw, Why do you use Adblock Plus and Ublock origin?

Re: Which security software and privacy tools do you guys use?

First of all, I use Windows 8.1 with only the essential updates installed (i.e. the ones that don't track you).

I use a third-party NTP server, not NIST.gov or Windows, to avoid NIST tracking when my laptop is connected to the Internet. Not many people are aware of this potential privacy issue.
I have HomeGroup disabled and my laptop set to NOT connect to WiFi automatically. This is because WiFi is easy to spoof and hidden networks will NOT protect you against it. (see: https://url.atil.la/oorso)

I have a secured fully-encrypted backdoor installed that can only be accessed by me, in case my laptop ever gets stolen, I will be able to retrieve it. (see: https://url.atil.la/yptee)

When it comes to storing data, I use Portable (http://portableapps.com) versions of open-source and/or trusted software.
The reason I do this is because I have a 64gb encrypted drive container (https://veracrypt.codeplex.com) using AES-256 and HMAC-SHA-512 as the PKCS-5 PRF.
The Portable versions of software avoid writing files outside of the encrypted drive, ensuring my privacy.

My browser is a privacy configured version of Firefox (see: https://url.atil.la/oafoo) utilising a list of privacy oriented add-ons:

I do not use a VPN unless I am at a public place.
My ISP has legal imperatives to protect and defend my unencrypted data (which we should all make sure to be minimal!)

If I need anonymous and private connectivity I use setups intended for what I require.
If I need to simply browse the Internet privately, I use Tor Browser (https://www.torproject.org)
If I need to have fully encrypted connections through other applications, I use Whonix (https://www.whonix.org) in a VM.
I have it hooked up to a pre-configured Windows 8.1. (note: make sure you have enough memory; at least 4gb. My current laptop has 12gb for this - Windows will require more than the 'Whonix Workstation')
(showcase: https://atil.la/x/img/fUSzRxCiOr.webm)

For my communications between online friends, I do not use known encrypted messaging- privacy unfortunately has not caught up with convenience.
However, I do separate real life from online life effectively (notably, personal information), which prevents potential future conflicts.

For applications that I do not completely trust I use Sandboxie. (http://sandboxie.com) with configurations that prevent it from reading/writing to certain places, and all of the data written is stored within the sandbox.
I highly suggest people to rely on Sandboxes more than Anti-Viruses. A large portion of malware today uses polymorphic evasive techniques to bypass AV blacklists and heuristics engines.
Anti-Viruses are only potentially useful for the computer-illiterate. I would assume most people here are careful.

However, there is one similar security product that I do endorse - Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit.
This software is intended to block and mitigate exploitation attempts and has very successfully blocked many 0days found in the wild and original ones I have tested myself.

Maverick: Because I was inverted.

I have never thought of programming for reputation and honor. What I have in my heart must come out. That is the reason why I code.

Re: Which security software and privacy tools do you guys use?

On the linux side of things, I just make sure I update my packages whenever updates become available and use things like AdBlock and HTTPS Everywhere. On the windows side of things, add sandboxie and frequent scans with malwarebytes on top of that.

For security, an up-to-date system and Common Sense™ 2016.

I use µBlock and µMatrix for privacy.

Idk I should only use Ublock Origin, but having adblock as well shouldn't break anything, so I haven't bothered to uninstall

Re: Which security software and privacy tools do you guys use?

Adblock - Not sure if this really adds to my security/privacy.
Agent Spoofer
VPN
Tor Browser
GPA - Some file encrypting/sharing software that is a pain to use.
Common Sense - Had to throw this on here to watch zoey explode.
Noscript Browser Extension

I'm usually too lazy to turn my VPN on when I restart my computer.  Tor is only when I'm doing something I probably shouldn't be.  Agent spoofer is always on.  The no script is a bit annoying at times.  GPA is almost worthless... So... even with all of this stuff I have... I'm not very secure //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/big_smile

Just the basics, like Adblock add-ons and a VPN that I never use.

I don't have a need for anything else. Just use common  sense and don't go looking for cheese pizza online.

Even legit sites can have Exploit Kit. And then you are done and infected.
The reason I use Anti-Exploit, is because that it will block 0days. Without it, I couldn't be secure enough.

But using Sandboxie in a Webbrowser and using Anti-Exploit program. You should be safe.

You have two Anti-Exploit, that I know about. And that's Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, and EMET.

Re: Which security software and privacy tools do you guys use?

I have Windows Defender and a VPN (which its main use is Netflix), I don't open myself open to attacks and I don't download anything other than well known programs from the official website; I have set up a weekly scan and restart of my computer and I've never come across anything. I think Windows Defender may do a lot in the background but I don't notice.

All of these people using Norton and Avast. I feel sorry for your infected computer.

MalwareBytes Anit-Malware is the only one which actually detects viruses on my pc.
