So I've been trying to make music visualizers and I have no idea what I'm doing so I'm asking for feedback on how to make better visualizers.
This is what I got so far.
Both made with blender. The first used blender's internal renderer and the second used the cycles renderer and a lot of compositing.

It is not the kind of music I listen to, so I'm totally not qualified to make a review on this.
It sounds very good. It has a good rhythm. But I would also enjoy more lower strong notes.
It will fit good on a party I guess.
If you like it, thats all that matters.

In the first one the red thing isn't clearly linked to the scene and just stood out as odd, have it closer so the light from the bars bounces off from it or have it staked into the ground?

I really like the 2nd one. The only problem I see with it is the cute cubesy cubes going too far in the background and too far in the foreground where its blurred out at.
1st one is boring...those line things are too common.

I love the second one, I haven't really seen it before. What you want to do is work on keeping everything onscreen though.
First off what programs you use to do that animations? I want to do it too because it seems so cool

If you want to make a music visualizer you'll need to learn how to bake sounds to F-Curves. Just find some tutorials on how to work with Blender, then find a tutorial on how to make music visualizers. Then all that's left is to play around with it.

Omg the second one is so cute. But it's cuteness would make it weird in some music choices.
I thought the first one got kinda weird around 2:20, because it kept repeating a pattern even though the music was not. Maybe you could associate frequencies with different green column or something like that? Like a piano.
But amazing job, cool visual effects with music is candy to the ey

The first one is a bit too.. uh, basic? Not as in easy because I know it's a lot of work behind that, but its design is pretty common even in stuff like WMP; not like I have any idea of what I'm saying, but I just wish it would be something flashy like the cubes jumping around in the second one. (too offscreen sometimes, but they're adorable)
Unrelated, but... the song in the second video sounds exactly like the menu songs in Rocket League, random autotune and all.

Yeah, I could do that. I had a similar idea once but it didn't end up working out, I should try again now that I have more experience.

Probably not as much as you think. Most of the time was spent just writing up the script to generate the bars. The visuals were basically tacked on as an afterthought and I dislike them more and more every day because it doesn't look any better than some half baked WMP visualizer from 15 years ago. Thankfully that's behind me now lol. At least, I really hope it is.

Just a tiny rant here: I finally made some progress towards accurate bar visualizers along the bottom. My problem up until now has been that I couldn't get it clear enough. Frequencies bled over into other bars for a long way. For example, if a song plays middle C, then half the bars in the same octave would also react, not just the bar that's hooked into middle C's frequency. It shouldn't do that. It took me until now to see what was going on. If you've ever messed around with spectrograms, I think it's the same kind of thing you see if you set the FFT window size to something really small, like 512 or 1024.
Anyway, I couldn't figure out a way to make blender's sound baking more accurate, so I found a workaround. I do the processing in a separate program called Sonic Visualizer, output it as a PNG, play around with it a bit in GIMP, then a script I wrote in blender imports the image and basically "bakes" the image to each of the bars. If I set the Window Size to something small, but not freakishly tiny, I can get a nice little curve where the note is instead of sharp spikes, and it makes it much easier to see effects like vibrato. And since I'm processing an image instead of using a built in function, I should be able to create other effects, like assigning a value based on the frequency of the loudest sound, instead of assigning a value based on the loudness of a frequency, kind of like the spherethings in Tamashiimizu's video where they get smaller the deeper the bassline gets.
Basically, I now have the visual bars part of visualizations completely down. All I need to do is tweak and perfect it and come up with something more interesting than scaled bars to serve as a background.

I watched the video you linked, looks pretty neat. It's been a while since I tried something geometrical-y looking for a visualizer. Got kinda discouraged last time because it looked so flat and empty and boring, but like I said it's been a while. Maybe Good Things will happen this time.

I was playing around with metaballs and particle systems and the red blob is what happened.

I made another one, although it didn't turn out as well. I'm not done with this, though, I'm planning on working on it some more when I have the time. I tried to recreate this wallpaper in blender but there's a lot of things I want to add/refine/change in the current version. Plus there's the whole flashing bars and black bits. I need to figure out why those happened.
In other news, this is the first visualizer I made that hasn't used blender's sound_bake() function which I recently found out has been what's giving me my troubles with the bars. I'll be working more on those in the future, too.
A little more info is in the video description on youtube.
Also not sure why it's not available in 1080p, is it available in 1080p for anyone else?

Here's a sort of visualizer. Sort of because youtube sucks money nuts.
First visualizer I've made that's 1080p@60fps. Took way too long to render everything. About 35 hours to render the scene, 9 more hours to render the bars, 11 to composite everything together, and about 15 minutes to encode it using ffmpeg, then another 3 hours to realize I encoded the wrong file, delete it off youtube, then re-encode at a much higher bitrate since the quality was so terrible after youtube got a hold of it (seriously, it may have been 1080p@60fps still, but it looked like 144p with all the compression artifacts. I really hope it doesn't happen again this time), and re-upload.EDIT: SCREW IT, SEEMS LIKE YOUTUBE WANTS THIS VIDEO TO LOOK AWFUL AND WILL NOT LEAVE IT ALONE. EVEN 480P@30FPS LOOKS BETTER THAN 1080P@60. IT'S FREAKING RIDICULOUS. I SPENT TOO LONG CREATING, TWEAKING, RENDERING, RENDERING, RENDERING SOME MORE, AND ENCODING THIS VIDEO FOR IT TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS. IF YOU WANT THE ACTUAL HIGH QUALITY VIDEO I'LL BE UPLOADING IT SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T SUCK MASSIVE MONKEY NUTS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING DURING THIS TIME.
This one is made up of just a rotating cylinder with spheres in it, with a dynamic paint canvas set up for the cylinder and dynamic paint brushes for each of the spheres.
The biggest/reddest three spheres are bass, bass drum, and snare.
The yellow-green sphere and the bluest sphere are both listening for voices.
The 5 blue/green small spheres are laser-targeted at doot-trackers, although the greenest/lowest-frequency dootsphere sees a lot of interference in its frequency range so it sometimes reacts even when there are no doots. It's sensitivity is set the lowest of any of the spheres but apparently that frequency range is a very popular frequency range in this song.
All the spheres are colored (and usually sized, with the exception of the blue voice sphere) according to the frequencies they're listening to, with the bass drum being the deepest frequency sphere and the blue voice sphere being the highest.I think I'm finally getting close to perfecting the bars. Maybe there's still some stuff I could automate about them but overall I think they're good for the moment. They don't take up buttloads of space anymore, which is always a plus. Only thing I would complain about is that there's some weird artifacting going on with the gradual falloff. There's a sudden drop then a plateau on the center-facing side of every spike. No idea where that's coming from.
I tweaked my compisiting for glowy materials a bit since my EXGF - We Are The Hearts visualizer, it only applies the blurring and darkening to pixels that are bright and saturated, and IMO it looks a ton better. Before it blurred and darkened indiscriminately and for this scene in particular it made the walls look horrible and grainy. Well, more horrible and grainy than they already are, anyway. The old way worked well enough for We Are The Hearts but it was too awful looking here.
In addition to that, I also tweaked the blurred panel at the bottom, it's now oversaturated just a bit and then mixed with a gray color so that it's always visible and doesn't get blown out when an object drifts behind it, which was actually an issue in We Are The Hearts. tbh I thought I had put a barrier in front of the camera to keep the spheres from getting too close to the edge but I must have deleted or relocated it because it did not do its job. Thankfully the only time spheres went completely out of frame I was able to cover it up with the song title thing at the beginning but it hovers pretty close to being out of frame pretty much the whole video.
