Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Animated signatures and avatars

How many people will dislike me when I suggest banning animations in signatures/avatars?

I think we've had our fun with the Team Fortress 2 animations, 'funny' animations, epilepsy inducing animations, and 10+MB animations.
Maybe it's time to tell those people to dump their very original animations on 4chan instead.

I was thinking about using maximum size signature and avatars images that do nothing but alternate between red and blue squares, as fast as animated GIFs allow.
But I decided to create this thread instead. And now I'm a wannabe-dictator - or not.

Re: Animated signatures and avatars

What i think

Well, there is no reason to get rid of funny animated signatures at all, just because of few users with bad connection or for them for these signatures to be annoying.

What can be added is the option to block such signature settings as images per size, per format, in your settings, so you can use them. There you are not annoyed and everyone is happy.

Conclusion: Option to block animations in signatures, at your profile settings.

Even Different55 is using an animated APNG signature.

In fact, he even added a line of text to make sure that readers who use Chrome have the browser extension necessary to view his animated signature that contains a bouncing "DIFF55" text.
I mean, seriously...
It's a good thing I use Firefox and it's enabled by default.

Except I don't want to be logged in all the time.
I'll learn to accept the animations, just like I learned to live with the dark theme.

What's the problem for hating a animated signature and avatar?

Why this bother you so much? You can also disable yourself.

I like animated thingies...they don't really slow down my internet either and my speeds are 300kb/s.

This is a false statement.

Re: Animated signatures and avatars

there are browser extensions for those who dislike animated images; you could probably set it up to only block the forums, if you so desire.

Then you can be logged in OR out.

It's been suggested before (by ravatroll I think) that the forums have a max-allowed size for signature and avatar images on a per-person basis. If an image is above your set size, it won't get downloaded. Seems like a better solution to the problem.
But if it's just animation that you have a problem with, you're probably better off going with an extension like hummerz suggested.

Did you forget that I made you a light theme or is there something wrong with it and nobody ever told me?

Re: Animated signatures and avatars

Eh, it comes down to opinion.
For me all the forums I frequented in the past always had animated signatures
