Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?
You are not logged in.
So I was thinking. Is it really necessary to ban a persons whole account just because they abused the chat? Why not instead just ban the chat on that account for a few days, and then second warning is just perma-chat ban.
Also my second suggestion was, even when a person is banned they should be able to play their own worlds. Like, they can go in their world, but just other people can't join. Idk. It sucks when you're banned and you can't do anything while you're waiting.

Yeah, that's kind of the point. It's not supposed to be a time full of rainbows and happiness.
You are to be cut off from the entire game.

Or you know, you moderators can stop being so PC and listen to a decent suggestion for a change. I was banned for a the equivalent of calling someone a 'noob'. No more, no less. Though I'm not going to argue about that. I will argue that I've put 5 years into my account, and I think it's ridiculous the entire thing gets suspended for an issue with only one aspect of the game. Half the game is communicating with people, the other half is building.
Why is such a horrible idea to only ban the chat, but not that account? You guys are being so self righteous, not even trying to give my idea a chance. You could at least consider it, though I won't depend on it since I know you like to ban for the most menial things. It's not such a bad idea to flesh out the ban system. Have certain types of bans for different rule breaks.
And here's another idea. Why you don't you get off your high horses and listen to someone for once. :O

You don't need chat to swear. You can use signs, world titles/descriptions or even build a text.
This is a false statement.

@Creature: Which is why the idea could be fleshed out more. If the moderators took the time to listen to the idea rather than ignore me.

I agree, I don't see the point of having chat bans implemented if they just lazily give every rule breaker a regular ban. There definitely needs to be more structure to the ban system. As far as I know, the mods arbitrarily determine ban types/lengths, when there should really be some kind of standard for them to refer to.

Whats the point of a chat ban then? Is it only used if someone specifically asks for it? If it's not actively being used as a punishment it might as well be an option in the game, because there are a few reasons why a regular person would like to turn it on and off (such as playing a new level and not wanting it ruined by over hearing people).
I agree with the premise of just not doing anything wrong and you won't have a problem, but if you aren't using the options you have to stop the one thing they are abusing, then why have it? And there also should be some sort of system on how you deal with bans if you don't have one, it is there to take away some opinion/bias from the moderation which is a good thing.

Punishments are not meant to be fun. They are meant to teach you a lesson. Maybe when your ban is over, you'll think twice before you abuse the chat again...
So should a murderer be charged on the same grounds as a thief? My misdemeanor was minor compared to what I could've done (i.e.: chat spam/hacking/building lewd content).
No one is saying rule breakers don't deserve punishment, but the punishment doled out should vary based on the rule breaker. Juvenile name calling hardly deserves an entire account to be banned.

Chat offense =/= murder
And your over looking the fact that its a few dayus, not a few weeks, or even permanant.
It's the principle of the thing.

The length is irrelevant. The concept of the punishment fitting the crime should still apply.
It seems to me that the current ban system is only being used as a medium for vengeance against rule breakers, instead of assigning fitting punishments. This is why a system is needed to define which punishment is appropriate for which infraction. We don't need mods banning users for whatever reason and for however long they like.

I do think that some minor communication abuses (swearing, limited spamming [not a bot]) should just result in chat being removed. Seriously, there's already a Boolean for it when a user joins the level. It would be a ten minute addition. It could be useful anyway if a parent or someone complains about their child being able to chat (which is why paid chat was implemented to begin with). It would be sufficient punishment for many offenders, and wouldn't be a "a time full of rainbows and happiness" as so described. Action taken should be equivalent to the action done. The current implementation is the equivalent of having an argument with a cashier at one store and suddenly banned from all of them as "punishment".

I actually 100% agree with Calicara on all points.
ban a persons whole account just because they abused the chat
make the punishment fit the crime, yo. If someone's only abusing chat, only ban the chat. what's the point of chatbans if virtually no one gets them?
Also my second suggestion was, even when a person is banned they should be able to play their own worlds. Like, they can go in their world, but just other people can't join. Idk.
yeah i really agree on this, had the idea myself here.
i mean, yeah, it's supposed to be a punishment, but for minor offenses, it's completely dumb to completely lock someone completely out from EE.
also allow staff to send out warnings (via lobby PM, and allow reply if needed) instead of outright bans and include the actual reason why they were banned, u feel? not like "for bein mean in chat", i mean like, with logs.
also allow 12 hour bans too, that would be pretty swell.

No, that's too far, just refrain from doing stupid stuff if you don't want a ban then. Chat ban for chat abuse makes sense though.

It's a decent suggestion (at leas the first part), I don't understand what's wrong with it. @staff, I understand you think that players need to learn to follow the rules and thus a harsh punishment is necessary, but if the severity of the punishment increases with each offence then this shouldn't be too much of a problem. Calicara even mentions this concept:
Why not instead just ban the chat on that account for a few days, and then second warning is just perma-chat ban.
plus have you ever heard of a chatspamming non-chat
thx for sig bobithan

I agree with the first half of the suggestion, abusing the chat once isn't as bad as using a hacked client for flying around and stuff, so why do you have to serve the same consequence? Also, what's the point if implementing chat bans if they aren't even used as a punishment? They're only used if somebody asks for a chat ban.
Also my second suggestion was, even when a person is banned they should be able to play their own worlds. Like, they can go in their world, but just other people can't join. Idk. It sucks when you're banned and you can't do anything while you're waiting.
I don't really like this. If the user has a clear reason to be banned, they should be banned. If you go to prison you can't just walk outside of the building just because you're bored. Just wait for your ban expire or do something else in the meantime, you have lives outside EE don't you?

Has it really been disgust enough? I think that a little more disgust-tion is warranted. Are you currently disgust-ing anymore? Dont discuss me by lying to me!!!

the joke is that staff doesn't ban people for hacked clients (that I've seen)... so apparently calling people noobs is worse than pretty much ruining the purpose of the game.
