Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Handheld EE

Just a little idea I had today (Sorry to get y'all's* hopes up with the title). Wouldn't it be cool to have a handheld version of Everybody Edits? Using Raspberry PI, a screen, and basic controls such as arrows and a jump button?

Pros:
• For people who had Gameboys and things of that nature, it would not only be a throwback but also much more familiar.
• Portable
• Ladies love it
• Could also be used for other games.

Some obstacles to consider:
1. How to search/chat/input code? --> stylus + on-screen keyboard? Tiny keyboard on the device?
2. How to edit/navigate easily? --> stylus? avoid editing?
3. Would it be easier to make a modified client or just a really big screen (like Playstation portable / Wii U) to accommodate things like the large block selection screen?
4. Most importantly, what would the Konami Code do?
5. ???
6. Profit? (Just kidding. No, I'm not kidding. Put one of these babies on the market and I'm all over it.)

I'll browse Amazon really quick and get an estimate of how much it would cost.

Presupposed FAQ/comments:
Q: Why not just make an app?
A: Did you not read the part where you can use any controller.

Q: Yes, I did. You can use those controllers on a PC as well.
A: Yeah, but are PCs handheld?

Q: Tablet.
A: Yeah, but the feeling is different.

Q: Price?
A: Less than $100.

Q: Form factor?
A: Imagine a brick with a screen, except slightly lighter and more attractive.

Amazon list of items:
PocketCHIP + CHIP ($50)
USB controllers ($15)

Total: About $65

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I can already play on my handheld, spacebar, arrows and all. A little difficult managing arrows, but easy to jump.

Get one of those, with the Pocket Chip. Install Debian with Xorg, LXDE, Chromium and Pepper flash and open EE.
Then, hope it doesn't lag (even though it seems to have decent specs).

$49.
Ta-da, do I win?

Great find!

How much RAM does EE need? Does anyone know? (512 MB is definitely enough)

And does PocketC.H.I.P have WiFi? (Yes.)

I doubt it would do flash games very well... same problem with Pi... (Forgot about the Pepper flash thing)

Re: Handheld EE

Performance would definately be an issue. I struggle to get 15fps with 8GB of ram and 2.4GHz GPU.

Odd, EE runs just fine on my Pentium E5300 with 2GB RAM. I recall it running on my old Celeron M360 laptop with 224 MB RAM a few years back.

Re: Handheld EE

My only concern is the keyboard with PocketCHIP. Seems a little small but I guess you could get used to it or use a Bluetooth controller.

The arrow keys and a touch screen are enough. PocketC.H.I.P.'s design could be better, however it is a cheap thing once they become generally available.

I can get a constant ?? FPS on my 1.7GHz dual core ARM phone with 3GB RAM using the mobile version of adobe flash player. What version of flash (adobe or pepperflash) and on what browser?

I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome with NaCl (Google Chrome's internal flash player.) I also have Flash Player 19.0.0.226 as a Chrome plugin, so I'm not sure which one is running.

EDIT: EE doesn't load in Google Chrome anymore. Trying Firefox...
