Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

//forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/cool:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: The title is pretty self explanatory. I want to learn how to code and try to follow in the footsteps of people who have learned before me. thanks

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

Hummerz5 taught me C#, the rest I did myself.
C#, learning java at school (very similar to c#), some html, and that's about it unless you want to count the .001% i know of PHP

If you really want to do this, you need to choose a language and learn all you can.

Yes, but you should learn basics of a language before trying to code it into a game.

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

Learned Java from a book, kinda "taught myself" if you can consider it that. I'm still very much an amateur, I've never really done anything consequential. I am trying to learn Android programming, but that's kinda halted with college and all that.

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

I learned Pascal from school.
But we do very easy stuff like "is the number prime or not?"
So I decided to use my auto-didacticism skills and I learned from books from library and internet.
Its pretty easy to learn a new language, so I'll just list the one I use frequently(low to hight): PHP, JavaScript, C#, C++
My favourite ones are Python and C++.

You should check out NodeJS, it's basically server-side JavaScript. This means you can use JS for the frontend and backend which makes building websites very simple, I've spent the last 2 months working on creating a custom CMS in it to move away from the PHP stack and I love it.

I know PHP pretty well and I've been learning 6502 assembly. Just looked up tutorials on the Internet and started reading.

Once upon a time i to wanted to learn to code.

I would think that it's better to know Visual Studio with tutorials, than starting without knowing anything.

Here is some good links to start with first.

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

C# (Jesse initially got me into it but most is self taught),
HTML/CSS (markup languages count),
JavaScript/jQuery/NodeJS,
PHP,
AS3, (don't really use my knowledge though)
Batch (for the few times it is useful)

All previous are self taught mainly though reading and for web design though seeing others codepen.io is an invaluable tool (my profile) and so is codecademy.com

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

I just google search everything. Basically every program I've written has been a mishmash of stackoverflow and other forums.

I don't think that qualifies as knowing a programming language, though.

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

Very tiny bits of CSS (copy/paste and changing a color here and there) when I was around 12 (to make up profile pages on a game website called Nonoba (now gone, Benjaminsen made it).

Java when I was 14 through a book my brother used in university.

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL (mysql version), GML on school during informatics.

CRPL during other free time stuff (game-specific language (creeper world)).

Python through work.

And last year I did C# (didn't really learn it, since the basics and nearly the same as Java).

And as Hexagon said, a lot stackoverflowing.

creeper world

I know this game! so many worlds, but it's always the same scheme, so it got boring for me after a while.

Ontopic:

LiveCode: using it for years (providing a link because probably unknown to you)

C, C++: limited knowledge, but I still know how to make some stuff with them

Java (also android), I don't like very much the android programming style though

C#: for EE, my java knowledge helped me skip the learning phase.

and the web languages: HTML, PHP, JS, (also CSS, but I don't like its way of positioning things)

EDIT: also python, but rarely using it, so that's maybe why I forgot it

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

Look up, "Thenewboston". He will teach you the basics of c#. He also dives into some cool things that you will never ever use in your life of programming for Everybody Edits but it is still cool. That's what i started with, i watched about the first 100 videos(Watched meaning listened whilst doing other thigns). They don't require a lot of focus. My tutorials are a bit outdated, i may make a new set for the recent updates.
I was taught the basics by buzzerbee.

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

Derek Banas has some amazing tutorials as well and he recently made a "Learn C# in one video" tutorial that is pretty good for learning the basics of C# if you have no programming experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lisiwUZJXqQ

Re: How did you learn to program and what languages do you know?

Lets see...
at age 10 i taught myself intermediate HTML.
I started getting good with Javascript and CSS and ir was around that time that I joined EE.
People taught me C#.
Eventually, I quit EE and got a life.
(During that lifetime, I forgot nearly everything about coding.)
Then my life ended, and I rejoined EE...
and now I'm just some stupid kid that used to know something.

Basically this, except instead of rejoining EE I joined a college and learned C++ instead.

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.
