Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Platforming Level

Hey again guys, just trying to get back into the groove of creating levels, for this one I'm focusing entirely on game play (So sorry about the lack of story, art, and general cleanliness of things), mainly platforming ("Minigames" implies they're too easy, but "Challenges" implies a higher degree of difficulty). I'm looking for feedback on certain levels, but more importantly my style in general.

Thank you for this interesting and constructive comment!
Perhaps if you read the post you would notice that it's about gameplay and not looks, but that would be too difficult. Let's just look at the minimap and make hasty assumptions, shall we?

Re: Platforming Level

I'll give you some actual feedback.

First, I did not try any of the rooms other than the first room, so keep that in mind for the rest of my critique.

The first room is not good, and I don't like the looks of the fourth one either.  The second and third minis look substantially better, although I'd have to actually test them to say that with certainty.

There are two main issues with the first room:

1.  The very first "arrow jump".

In my experience, most people who have been playing the game for a while despise these, along with the similar "one dot jump".  The issue is that they are basically the same no matter where you encounter them, so if you'd beaten one, you've beaten them all.  Playing something you've beaten before isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but the types of things people like to play again tend to be things that are relatively free flowing and can be "mastered".  As an example, a series of jumps on decent sized platforms can be accomplished without a single error by a skilled player.  I've yet to see anybody who can do an arrow jump consistently and without fail, even though they are one of the simplest challenge types.

Think of it like "precision" vs "quick adjustments".  An example of a mini based on quick adjustments is one that would require the player to run fast and jump up into dots then hold down to land on a three-block wide platform, and will be forgiving as long as the player gets the general sequence right.  A mini based on precision, however, requires pixel-perfect actions, and are almost always a lot less fun.  Just from eyeballing them, the second and third minis look to have a bit more of a focus on multiple adjustments than on pixel-perfect actions.

2.  The general "cramped tight jumping and fall down" style.

Its claustrophobic, especially when combined with pixel-perfect gameplay and the knowledge that if you make a single error you will have to do an annoying challenge again (the arrow jump).  When it comes to fun, big and fast almost always trumps small and precise.  The fourth mini looks like it has these problems as well.

Here is a general rule of thumb you can rely on: if you have a single dot on its own, a single arrow on its own, or more than one single block, its probably not fun.  If you have lots of arrows, lots of dots, and big wide platforms, it might still not be fun, but its a lot more likely to be fun than the tight cramped minigame.

Wow, that was really deep. Managed to catch you in game and get a touch more feedback.

Adjusted first room to be less about pixel-perfection and more about providing a better difficulty curve.
Changed second room from horrible arrow pool madness to fast jumping and air control.
Changed arrow jump in last room to dot jump (more lenient), but otherwise kept the puzzle the same.

I found it fun actually. Sometimes I like playing parkour kind of levels where if you die you restart.
If you are going to make a full out map with art and stuff, just try to not make these kind of minis.

Sunset, I love how educated you are. I like to see your educated awnser to some man. This show how good people you is //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

In game: I like your world, your world is simple, and I love it! I always like parkours worlds, not hard parkours but medium to easy.

-Simplicity is the key

Your amount of post just says that you is a old user, and you post too much, bad posts sometimes. Clear your comment:"this looks bad". Not just say something like this, just justify, explain.

i remember compressed pictures that looked like they were taken in fullscreen and the minis being made of colored blocks other than gray beta
...is this a social experiment or am i losing my mind

Yes, you lost your mind.

A level doesn't need to have very colors to be fun, just simple things that make you enjoy the level. And I enjoyed the level.

the point was that for some reason i remember the post having a "Screenshots" spoiler and one of the minis looked like this

i don't have any grudges against plain gray beta block minis and don't understand what just happened

It was like that at some point, but the minis weren't nearly as bad as you thought they were. I guess pictures can be misleading. Maybe why he removed them?

Removed them because they were taking up waaayyy too much space in my puush account. Also changed worlds because a friend needed to use the massive one.
Actually just kidding, this is a social experiment and you failed miserably //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue
