Most of you guys are pretty good with this, but I occasionally see criticism dubbed as "constructive criticism."
What's the difference?
I'm criticizing them so they construct better stuff, am I doing it right? No.
I'm criticizing, but being specific on what needs to be improved, am I doing it right? No.
Here's how you can constructively criticize:
1. List one or more things that the creator has done well (if you look hard enough you can think of something nice to say)
2. Now point out what you don't like and how they can improve (don't make this outweigh the list in step one).
3. Ask yourself, can be taken as snide or offensive? If so, rephrase.
4. You did it! The creator's feelings are not hurt and you've shown them how to improve!
Remember, brutal honesty can deter people from building instead of helping them improve.
