Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I decided to make a topic about this and use another example to show this has happened outside kirbys daily minigames.
I know very well about the no changing physics answer, but at this time, portals can still be broken randomly. I know this is per user because with the examples below, I've had people both be able to and not able to when in the world together.
The top video is what is supposed to happen, and the bottom is what happens when you reload the page (took me about 4-5 times, it's not consistent), and yes, I started at the same spot and did the exact same thing.

I tried on both firefox (ver 39.0) and chrome (ver 44.0.2403.107 ) and same thing happens.
I typically agree with the not changing physics, but this is something that can break both old and new levels (unfortunately it's something that happens randomly) so I thought I'd show that it does happen.

This happens when there are multiple portal IDs connected to each other. When you join one of the combinations is chosen and will stay like that while you're in the room. Mustang even made a room based on this: http://forums.everybodyedits.com/viewtopic.php?id=7921
The issue here is the assigning of portal IDs; nothing is actually broken.
*EDIT*
Just noticed this isn't what you meant at all. I don't know the mini, but are you sure it's not a different key combination you're using?

I decided to just open it, ill put a spawn at the mini
Edit: I might as well just add this to here to answer nou's question about me using different keys.
I probably did when it happened during kirby's daily mini. However with this one that I linked, I only use left/right, so I can assure you I am doing to same thing there. And I also did try it numerous times and without fail, the same thing always happened and the other didn't, you were basically stuck with the one that first happened, I have not seen it revert to the other one yet.

After thinking about it for a bit, I believe what nou said is correct, and with this specific example, it's because it's taking you to the portal thats right below the ceiling, which prevents you from going upward.
However I still want to know why it does that, shouldn't it stay consistent if the level is open? Regardless if it chooses a random portal on that, shouldn't it be based on an instance when the level is open and not based on each person? It would make much more sense.

Either way, the randomness will mess things up so you shouldn't really have multiple portals with the same ID (unless nothing has that ID as a target ID).

I understand that now and will just accept it, but that doesn't mean I don't want to know why. I just want to know why it's player dependent instead of level dependent, I am also aware these aren't the same people who made portals, so the answer will most likely be because that's just how they were made before, and since this isn't necessarily level breaking (now that I understand it) it will probably be kept, which I will reluctantly accept.

It doesn't trigger before it has to basically. The server doesn't check for weird portal connections until it's faced with a dilemma and then goes "well this one I guess".

Interesting, thank you for answering, and now I can let this thread rest.
