Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

When I reply to an existing topic with a valid message, then click "Reply with double post" with an empty message field, I am greeted with an alert saying that I need to enter in something for the message. The message box flashes twice. When I create a new tab in my browser, then close that tab that I have created, the message box flashes again.
By creating a new tab and closing it, the message box will flash twice each time, even though I did not click on "Rely with double post".

The "message needs to be supplied" error is something totally different from the warning warnings.
If your message box is empty and you try to hit submit, you'll get a popup saying you can't submit a blank message. This is different from the flashing that happens when the text box gains focus while a warning warning situation is going on.
I think your browser is blurring the message box when you open a new tab, and automatically refocussing it when you return to the tab, which would cause it to flash again. But that's totally seperate from the Submit/Reply button. The Submit/Reply button is totally independent to the flashing.
