Only Apple products have been affected by it. My Android resists it and does not crash. Pretty much confirms Android > Apple

Anyways:

If you own an iPhone, and you are playing a game, or just doing anything that involved your phone being on and your friend sends the following characters to you:

effective. 
Power
لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ
冗

Your phone will, out of the blue, reboot

Of course, people think it is funny to do that at random times

Today, there were 37 of those random times

NOTE: doesn't work when you have messages open with the friend who texts it to you. Works every other time

NOTE: also doesn't work if you have notifications turned off

Nah, it's an iOS/MacOS specific bug related to Apple's CoreText, which is an Apple-exclusive way of dealing with text encoding and rendering (going off memory here, please forgive me) because, you know, screw standards.

This is, like, the third "send your friend some random Arabic text to crash their iDevice" exploit I've seen in the past few years.

this is because some of the characters in the arabic text cannot be verified by the phone, that's why you see the dotted boxes

because the phone cannot register the characters, it does an automatic shutdown

like so others can see

It worked on my friend's iPad, so i bet it would work on any apple device with the current iOS version

This is, like, the third "send your friend some random Arabic text to crash their iDevice" exploit I've seen in the past few years.

To fill the others in, there was one a while back that was about displaying the text "file:///" anywhere in any application on any mac device (even iOS), would cause the app displaying it to freeze (and eventually crash.)
