Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

N1KF is usually the alt master but I don't think he has that many here (compared to fail). Maybe 1 or 2.

At what point does something become off-topic?

For example, this post is off-topic but I probably won't get in trouble for it as I'm asking about something that stems from something on-topic and is slightly relevant. Then you'll reply to this post about what is off-topic. Then, someone with a differing opinion may reply to that on what they think is off-topic. Let's say that you let that one slide. But then you have 3 posts that are not on the topic of why a person is banned. From the most recent post on a differing opinion will only start a debate on what is and isn't on-topic. At what point would the debate be so irrelevant to the topic that someone will be warned?

I'm sorry that this became so philosophical, I didn't intend it to be like this. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

Re: Why are they banned? REVIVED

I think if people start to go off track, but still responding to each other, a mod might just post asking to get back on topic. If people just say irrelevant things which aren't even responses or related to anything anyone has said, then that's probably when they get a warning.

On the old Everybody Edits forum, I had three alternate accounts if I remember correctly (one as another identity, and two others for functional porpoises). Right now, I would rather not say how many I have so I can keep speculation active.

If it were gradual like that then it would continue until someone was smart enough to realize "hey we're getting off topic." After that if it really was off-topic then I'd ask everyone to get back on topic with no warnings handed out because stuff like this happens in conversations. The only time someone would get warned in a gradual case like this is if they flat out ignore my request. If the new discussion is really different from the original, I may split the topic into two so both conversations can continue.

EDIT: wow, I didn't realize there was a 2 for 1 sale on ninja'ds today.

Re: Why are they banned? REVIVED

Goeyfun and alkazam1448 were both banned for this massive spam/off-topic thing:

Hidden text

Alts possibly related to this matter were banned for ban evasion.

It got way off-topic very quickly, and I believe that several users knew better than to continue with that support-chain, so everyone was warned.

Just make sure you use a different IP //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/wink
Also I think its allowed but only if its for a reasonable purpose.

It's allowed if it's for a reasonable purpose and you have to run it by us first so we know not to ban your alt.

Why was Social Media Strategy banned? I mean the name just screams alt, but he didn't seem malignant...

Wow, you make them sound like cancer lol

Ban evasion, like the others. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

None of the people we end up banning are usually malignant, but the sad truth is that they broke the rules enough times that we have to take action to show that that kind of stuff isn't tolerable here.

Re: Why are they banned? REVIVED

Why do all these ban evasion accounts have such obvious names? At least attempt to make it subtle. :/

Also, is it worth reporting posts if they break the rules? I don't feel as if it's that much of a help but if you say it is I'll start doing it more.

Reporting posts is one of the biggest helps you could give us. We hardly see anything unless it's reported.

Heh. Didn't mean to come off so cynically. May I ask who the real evader was, or is that top secret mod stuff? There seem to be quite a few ban evasions lately...

Probably not unless they feel like coming forward themselves in a few days when they're unbanned, but it's multiple people doing this. Definitely 2, but it's possible more people joined the ban evasion party.

Well, I only see about two non-alt accounts in the user list that are banned...

Two questions: 1) Why was Fdoou banned? 2) How do you evade bans?

You make another account, either from another I.P. address, or a proxy. As far as I know, you cannot register another account on your I.P. address until unbanned.

No need for a new IP most of the time. Basically the only type of can that is an IP ban is a permanent ban. All shorter bans are handled by the warnings mod we have in place, which doesn't do IP bans. Please note that anyone found evading a ban will have the alt permanently banned and the main account's ban extended as if they had received another warning (although no new warnings will be actually given).
