Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Lol this is the 21st century. Books still exist?
My brother says he hasn't read a book since he was made to in high school and he's one of the smartest people I know.

Already doing that. I win.
You've made an excellent choice, I'm glad!

"One of the smartest people you know" means absolutely nothing.

What is defined as a "good book"? What happens when I read all the good books in my possession? Do I re-read them or spend money I don't have to get good books?
We need a list of good books.
Also, the smartest person I know also hasn't read a book of his own free will since high school.
And then he read ASOIAF... and refuses to read anything else.

It seems like you're asking a bunch of questions to avoid reading good books.

If you don't wish to spend any money you can visit a library and loan it for free. If the book you're after is old enough to be in the public domain you can probably find it online. Try Project Gutenberg for that. Here is a good book, that can be read online: http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/7849/pg7849.txt

That series of books is incredibly bad.

I think reading books though goes beyond literature. Reading is the staple of our lives. We have to learn to read in order to understand communicate with each other. It's true reading lots of books does not make one smart, but reading books does help to improve learning, vocabulary, and interpretation skills. (I for one felt a milestone in reading after I read Frankenstein. Now reading complex texts has become much easier for me.)
Reading also helps improve your writing skills. When you study the language and discourse of others, only then can you start to build on your own. Reading can also be informative, such as a textbook, or helpful, like craft guide/self help guides. Reading isn't just for fun, but I think it's important we all learn how to do it.

like the kamasutra?
Maverick: Started up on a 6, when he pulled from the clouds, and then I moved in above him.
Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Because I was inverted.

Books have a longer tradition and take on a much more important role in the history of mankind.

I haven't read it, so I can't tell if you if it's good or not, but I suppose it could serve as an introduction to Hinduism/Indian views on sexuality. It has its place in history.

Have you read Cloud Atlas? One of my favourites.

Sorry, I haven't read it. But it's been on my to-read list for a while, so I might start it once I'm done with King Leopold's Ghost.
