I don't know about you guys, but where I'm from, if someone is trying to teach you something and trying to help you get good grades, then it's simply rude not to listen to them and get distracted with something like a book. Even if the rest of the class aren't listening either, you are still just as bad. Though, I would say that the girl is a hypocrite if she wasn't listening either.

IMO, I understand why the teacher wants you to pay attention. As someone who has gotten yelled at for reading books at the beginning of the class (and not actually during actual teaching), i dunno man. there's a time and place for everything. try to be more subtle and tell the person who got you into trouble that snitches get stitches.
