Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I use tablet and sometimes I press subscribe instead of Índex. I find it annoying having to unsubscribe again. I don't use this subscription system, it only spams my email. There should have a way to disable this system and make all subscribe buttons dissappear.

in UK, "Every marketing email you send must give the person the ability to opt out of (or ‘unsubscribe from’) further emails."
It's illegal
I'm not in the UK, I'm not marketing, and when you hit subscribe there's an unsubscribe button right there.

While it is a pretty small issue, I don't think it should be something that would be too difficult to do. Probably just adding one thing in profile and then a conditional in viewtopic.php.
On the other hand, if your browser allows you to add your own CSS (probably unlikely since it is a tablet) then you could do it for yourself by not displaying .subscribelink
