Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I still don't get why people don't delete the whole topic. It's a waste of space.
They want it to still be availabe to read.
Eg. If it's a question they asked, someone else might want to ask the same question. If the thread is deleted, they have to ask it again. If the thread is just locked, then they can see the answer.

But why leave the thread to be left there? Typically threads are something that someone asks. But I get your point.

Also, after contests, etc sometimes people want to close it to prevent people from thinking it's still open, while still letting people read it.
The only reason you should delete a thread is if you screwed up and want to save yourself from embarrassment.
