Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

question on jokingly using language *meant to degrade groups of people

*that is usually?

what do you think of people jokingly using language that is usually or has previously been used to degrade groups of people
is the language still degrading if it is not meant to be? can it still be degrading in this case?
what do you think of people of a group jokingly or casually using language that is usually used to degrade the group
do you think people should be allowed to use language in these ways?

eg people who are gay saying gay (eg that is gay)
people who are black saying the n word (eg calling a person the n word)

idk

That being said, I think its different for people of that race/group to use the language than for someone else. Hence the social taboo on white people using the n word and whatnot.

language used to degrade a group is always bad, but if used in a joking manner with friends or such I think sometimes it can be forgiven

Maverick: Started up on a 6, when he pulled from the clouds, and then I moved in above him.
Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Because I was inverted.

It's to do with reclaiming a word. Black people reclaimed the n word, and have turned it into something good for themselves. Gay people might use the f-slur for themselves, as we've (or are trying to) reclaim it. To have been discriminated against and attacked and etc. for so long, taking a discriminative word and changing it to use it in a good way for yourself is fighting against discrimination. It's like redirecting a slur to the person who used it, when you may not even say it at them.
