Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Pyromaniac started this discussion before. I think it ended with our inevitable disagreement and Treejoe4 calling me a psychopath.
The short answer is no. Humans don't have free will so long as we are slaves to our bodies. We can renounce rules and civilization, but we will always be slaves to our base instincts, to eat, live, and breed.
tell that to the monks

Everyone has to eat eventually or they will die. Only then are you truly free.

What happens to us when we die?
Depends on what you believe in. No one knows for sure.

I don't think you would know you're dead, when you die. You would know when you're dying, but not when you're actually dead, because you're not conscious anymore. If reincarnation exists, then I think that the space between death and the next birth would be completely unnoticeable to you. It would be instant from death to birth, because you wouldn't notice time passing if you weren't conscious, and especially if you were dead.

There are lots of stories like that, unless the person is completely brain dead (for which is it impossible to bring them back to life) anything they see will be happening in their mind as there is still electrical activity therefore they are most likely in a state similar to that of dreaming.
This has become off topic. Even though I think the matter has been settled as there isn't a lot of evidence for that of free will.
This is hella gay

The guy said he lost consciousness. Doesn't that mean he is brain dead? Not trying to argue ^^ Just thought I'd ask because you're a biology PhD or somethin'.
Some people lie. Definitely not saying he is though. Could be true.
This is a rather "opinionated" (for lack of better word) subject. Mnay people won't believe it till they see it.
I think I can see where you're coming from but I'm not sure. Is your thinking along the lines of "Just because this choice was predetermined doesn't make it any less my choice," or am I totally off?
Basically.

I'm not going to claim to actually know the physics involved, but I'm about 95% sure you're stating things as fact that are really only possibilities considered by physicists with limited actual evidence in either way.
Ratburntro44 wrote:I don't see why free will and determinism would be contradictory. I believe in both of them.
Sorry they do mean completely differing things.
Determinism is the view that an individuals behaviour is shaped or controlled completely by internal or external forces. While Free will is the view that individuals are capable of self determination and have an active role in controlling their behaviour.
Saying you believe in both is similar to saying that you believe the earth is both round and flat, it may if you take the meanings and manipulate them a lot but as the definitions are you can't say that your behaviour is completely controlled by internal or external forces and also we have control over them.
No, it really isn't. It's actually a fairly common idea known as compatibilism.
Moreover, your definitions don't really make much sense (and don't actually match with the common definitions). Being controlled "completely by internal or external forces" means literally any forces may affect it, since all forces would be internal or external. It also doesn't clearly contradict your definition of free will (what is your self determination if not an internal force?)
Altogether, you seem to be stating incompatibilism as fact when this is far from being the case; it is something that is still an issue of debate by philosophers. You are also at fault in claiming that compatibilism requires manipulating the definitions of free will and determinism; while the definition of determinism is pretty much accepted, free will is actually quite a difficult thing for philosophers (let alone anyone) to come to a common agreeable definition of. In fact, one could argue that the debate of whether free will exists is primarily actually a debate over how it should be defined.

Wrong quotation?
Everyone has to eat eventually or they will die. Only then are you truly free.
eating is more then a desire man, you just gotta eat or you die

My point exactly. We are bound by biological constraints. We will always be slaves to our bodies.
