Diamond Block and Funding for EE

For those who played EE before the paid Beta program, the business model was relying on PayPal donations to keep the game running. I distinctly remember the day that Chris announced that "donations didn't work," and so he's changing to a system where paying users get perks. (At first, extra smileys, and then saved worlds, and then more). I was glad to pay the $5 for all that value.

Today it seems the pay model has lost its mind. $50 for a smiley? $50 for a block? Offering these items makes the EE creators look like greedy morons who are out of touch with the simplest laws of economics. I doubt that's true, but out of context these store items paint a grim picture.

If this is genuinely an attempt at humor, obviously it's a failed joke. EE team should cut their losses on this "joke" and take down the offers.

On the other hand, imagine if the items were reasonably priced. If Big Spender cost $5 instead of $50, lots of users would buy, and EE would have a modest windfall. If the diamond block cost $1, again many users would snatch up the offer, especially if it was a limited-time offer. People like to spend modest sums to support a group. If you allow this, it will happen.

Agreed... I was also thinking that if it was lowered to maybe even $10, More people would Purchase it than the 5 people running around in EE with it. More purchases of a Low Price is BETTER than Low Purchases of an outrageous Price.

Oh, And by-the-way. Apparently the Diamond block was Upped to $100. Yup. Check the Shop.

OH AND ALSO, Apparently now touching the Blocks gives you a "Fake Big Spender Smiley" Uh. It masks your smiley with a Big Spender until you Change it. What does that mean for the people who've bought big Spender already?

You have the privilege of being Big Spender in levels that don't have a diamond block. Kind of like riding in a limo through an impoverished neighborhood. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/wink

I guess that would work for them, But it kind-of ruins the Importance of them in a level if the Diamond happens to be the first block in said level, and every-other smiley has the Hat & Monicle. ;p

Re: Diamond Block and Funding for EE

*sigh*

This is what happens when I go afk on Skype for a longer while. If I would have been online during the time that the suggestion to up the price to 100$ was made, I would have voted against it in an instant. Not sure if it would have made any difference though, but one could try.

Also, as many other users have pointed out, the Big Spender and the Diamond should never ever be regarded as purchased items, but more prizes for being kind enough do invest so much money in the EE project.

Also, the fact that so many people lost energy, diamonds and smilies today is because of a hacking attempt made earlier today that forced Chris to roll back the game to a previous date. As soon as I have time tomorrow, I'll make sure to discuss the losses with Chris in more detail, including giving back the winners their prizes.

The update was never meant to be this glitchy and enraging to people, that's for sure. I can only hope that you guys can be patient with us while we try our best to work out this whole debacle as best we can.

I am just so agree, many parents will buy to their kids and they will lost a lot of money... FOR ONE SINGLE BRICK, or the big spender...

And it says "For they who REALY support Everybody Edits" To be honest, I think that is a stupid comment, if we are going to spend all our money on ONE SINGLE BRICK!!! then its just stupid and the players will be mad......

Chris, I guess. He's the guy that gets the money. Within the first week the big spender was released, Chris was $1.000 richer.

I actually knew this was gonna happen //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile
Chris has officially gone mental //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

But seriously :
Chris. If your going to put a 1000 gem brick into the game, make it have some really cool property, because IMO, big spender is ugly so not really a cool property to change people into cheap versions of them.
Take Jakery's idea, I would so buy a smiley if it was say for $5/10 dollars for a limited amount of time, if its pretty //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile
But please don't take this idea too far :/
Also, the diamond isn't even pretty, sure Its sparkly<3 but a weird shape and too grey :/

Think about it this way. Kids may get ahold of a parent's credit/debit card, and have no idea how it works.
They think it's free money, and think it has no consequences. They think with a card, they are millionaires.
They charge an ungodly amount to it, to get diamonds and big spender and a great world...!

Parents cannot afford food and go into deep debt and bam, bankruptsy, lose of cable and internet!
Imagine it!

Re: Diamond Block and Funding for EE

I think $25 dollars for the diamond would be more reasonable
Diamond gives you a fake big spender, so, a fake big spender should cost $25
Hozabout that?

Not even. The MOST I'd give it would be $10 (100 Gems)

I agree; you are not buying the smiley, it is a gift to you. But when you fix the payment at 50 it sure does make it sound the other way around, doesn't it?

Instead, say
"If you make a donation of $50 or more you will receive a Big Spender smiley."
instead of
"Pay exactly this and receive this."

See what I'm talking about? We're phrasing it like it's an offer, but it's really a gift.

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Re: Diamond Block and Funding for EE

Okay. Here are some things that I'm sure most of us agree need to be changed.

* Diamonds.
    - Remove the Big Spender crap, maybe replace it with something less slow.
    - Lower the price, maybe to $20 each. People who spent $100 now have 5 instead of one.

Here is something that I do not believe should be changed.

* Big Spender.
    - Its always been an icon to me. Don't upset this crucial (to me) figure of EE.
    - Its been around for too long to change now.

Re: Diamond Block and Funding for EE

As a person who has spent lots of time on games with virtual shops, I'm not ready to freak out at this point. I will admit that the pricing is pretty outrageous for those two items, but if some crazy bastard is willing to pay it out, who cares. The rest of the items are free, which is totally awesome. I won't complain until they start turning the majority of items to real cash pay.
