Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

It's still distracting, adding more words won't solve it, really.

Adding someone's name highlights the message for said person.

Billy, my dear child, if you do not agree with me then explain why. You're making it seem like I'm saying: "Everyone do this, if you don't you're stupid. I'm always right and you're always wrong."

Well, I hope I'm not saying that. o.o

Tako, my dear child, I'm disagreeing with you because you're only looking at the argument from one perspective. Have you ever thought about what people from other countries think about us when we speak English? Should they learn to speak a reasonable amount of English just for our benefit?

Where's the proof that it should be treated as such? Is it written anywhere?

I'd like you to provide me with some evidence, please.

Re: Foreign Languages in Chat

I am from, Germany, speaking German as my only language. I waltz into this game and somehow manage to register and enter the level. Everyone is speaking this bizarre language! Can't understand a word. Now, here are your options:
> Don't talk.
> Talk in German, even though nobody can understand you.
> Use a translator to talk in this mysterious language, not sure how well it sounds.

Which makes more sense, to you, BILLYP?

Proof that this should be treated like an English website? The fact it's written in English doesn't phase you? Hm. How about everyone's talking in English? Is that a good reason to assume we should treat it like an English website? No?

Are you going to treat a cat like you would a bear because it's the only way you know how to treat an animal?

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Don't talk for the most part, but if someone pops by that speaks German, wouldn't you feel relieved that you have someone to talk to? Think this through, please.

And of course it's an English website. But there's still freedom of speech in games.

I didn't say they shouldn't use a translator to talk in 'this mysterious language'. I asked what you think they think when we speak English in front of them. If me and you talked on a website, consisting of people who only speak French, in English, what would they think of us? Should we be forced to speak French?

The fact that it's written in English does phase me, yes, but in no way does that mean everyone has to speak in English.

I'm trying my hardest to ignore you at the moment; you're being an attention-seeking troll.

Re: Foreign Languages in Chat

Well, to point out, it would be a rare occasion if somebody stopped by that spoke Japanese, like you were talking when you first came in my room.

And how would you know there is another German? I doubt someone would be chatting avidly even though they can't understand anyone and nobody can understand them. Usernames, too, aren't exactly screaming "HEY, I'M GERMAN"

But, realistically speaking, even if there was someone that spoke German, does that really mean that you're going to get along? JUST because you share a language? I mean, it's possible that the two could have a raging debate about German economy or whatever, but wouldn't you feel out-of-place?

It's also involving consideration toward the majority of the chat room. Even though everything's sunshine and roses for you and your German friend, it's still a bit distracting to everyone else, without a doubt. The considerate thing to do is think to yourself: "They probably don't know what this means, it could be a distraction", and asked your new best friend to come to your level to help out.

An Billy, I know I anger a lot of people when I debate like this. Nobody offers me any type of constructive criticism, except for RPG. I'm not doing this for attention, either, that's just silly.

Re: Foreign Languages in Chat

Actually, on the forums alone, we have visitors from over 150 different countries, and I'd imagine that the game has even more variety.

Please don't tell people they MUST speak in English, they can talk in whatever language they choose.

I don't think we were getting anywhere, actually...

But I'm okay with this continuing. I just don't have much else to say besides the obvious.

If I use big words that little kids don't understand, am I the one at fault? No.

It's ironic that you say that the people speaking in a foreign language are being inconsiderate, when you yourself are being inconsiderate not allowing them to speak in their own language in a game played worldwide. You don't own the chat sidebar. And not once have I been distracted by people speaking in a different language. Never.

Re: Foreign Languages in Chat

Well, apparently I'm "a self-centred bloke who cares only about his own opinions that usually lack simple logic"... Can someone care to explain my mistakes so I don't continue making them? And can I ask that you address my entire post, not just one sentence? I'm not saying what I say for the fun of it, I'm seeking to reason, believe it or not.

I have no disrespect for the languages themselves. I'm not saying foreign people can't enter my room. They can speak in Swahili until the blue moon for all I care, as long as it doesn't become a distraction. When I'm trying to have a serious conversation about something and there's a distraction, I'm going to deal with it. If I'm alone in my chat room and two people come and start having a conversation Spanish while playing in, I'm fine with that. It's just when I'm trying to talk about politics or whatever, and every other line is "sekrjgner," it's extremely hard to focus. FOR ME. Maybe not to Supadorf, maybe not to Zel, but to me, it's distracting.

Harsh? Probably, yeah. But, here's the shocker: it's my chat room! I have, and utilize, the right to kick for ~no reason at all~. Vis-versa, too. If I enter a Spanish level and start speaking English, they have the complete right to kick me for it. Would you say they're denying my right to speak? Ofc not! They just don't want me talking, and I can respect that. Maybe I can come back in five minutes and just not talk at all.

Closed again. Different, do not re-open. Nobody re open, this is final.

You may NOT tell other users they must speak English, though you can certainly kick if it becomes a problem. Room owners can kick for whatever reason they like.

I would also like to point out that Chris is from Denmark, so even his main language is not English. The game is hosted on Danish servers. Rpgmaster2000 is Swedish.
