Prepare yourselves for everything you need to know to get started. After this you need to just play around.

Tools:
- Audacity
- GIMP/Photoshop
- Hex Editor
- Any Windows OS that has WordPad (NOT NOTEPAD)

Getting the starting material
You need a picture and GIMP or Photoshop.
JPGs and PNGs are bad. Don't use them. They break easily. Use BMPs or TIFs or my absolute favorite: Raw image data. Open your image in GIMP, Go to File>Save As>Name it whatever, remove the extension at the end of the file name, click Choose by Extension, click Raw Image Data, click OK, then in the next dialog, click the +, select Planar and Normal, and REMEMBER THE ORIGINAL IMAGE'S SIZE. Also, never glitch the originals. Keep the original so you can see the original size. Save. You know have the perfect format. Unbreakable, and all the MarioKart glitches were made from this format. Also, the Shroom glitches were started off with this format.

Bending with Wordpad
How you do it:
Open word pad. Click Open. Select All Files from the drop down at the bottom. Select your image. Open it. Save it. It's bent. And it will be wrapped around itself to the right. The reason for this is that it tries to be smart and replace a few bytes (0A, 0B, 0D) with 0A 0D. This adds an extra byte for every 0A, 0B, or 0D byte and makes it wrap around to the right.

Adding onto wordpad
If you count up each and every one of those bytes with a Hex Editor, then remove that many bytes from an area, you can control the wordpad effect a bit. It gets a little boring counting every single one of those bytes, so I made this to help. When you're in a hex editor, copy everything and paste all that hex into my tool. Enter something random into Data to be found: or else it gets mad. Press Begin search and it will tell you how many 0As, Bs, and Ds there are. Add those up and you know how many bytes you need to remove.

Audacity
This tutorial only goes as far as telling you how to correctly open and save images without breaking them. Open audacity. Go to file>import>raw data then pick your file. THIS NEXT PART IS IMPORTANT AND YOU NEED TO REMEMBER WHAT YOU DO.
Set Encoding to U-Law or A-Law. Remember which one. Set the audio to Mono, then pick whatever you want for endian-ness. Remember all these. If you are using my favoritest format you will see 3 big blocks. In order from left to right, those are the Red, Green, and Blue. If you are using a BMP or a TIF or whatever, have fun with the effects, but you have to be careful about the first few seconds or so. Those are the headers and if you screw them up your image will break.

Saving:
File>Export
On the dropdown at the bottom pick other uncompressed something. Then on Options, make sure the top says RAW (headerless) and the bottom one says U-Law or A-Law. Whichever one you chose the first time, pick that one here. Grats, you have a bent image.

Opening the raw image data in GIMP again
File>Open
Click the plus on the extension thingy. Pick raw image data. Select your bent image. You'll get a new dialog. On this dialog, select Planar and Normal. Then open up your original and grab the Width and Height from the original, and put those values into the dialog for Width and Height. For the Shrooms bend, I used 2 image to make the finals: 1 bent raw file and 1 original. I opened the original, then opened the raw twice. The first time I opened the raw I set the width to one higher than it was supposed to be, and the second time I set the width to one lower. Now you save it as a format like JPG or PNG or BMP or whatever because you're done.

That's the basics of everything I know. Go crazy, nubbies.
