Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

[Programming] SelfHash - Self-Hashing for Passwords

Hello everyone! //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

I've just dreamed up a new interesting project which could - if successfull - change the definition of password hashing (or with future versions, encryption): An algorithm which is simple, very secure (not decryptable by anyone), and fast. It would be very nice for databases!

Currently, it's a bit kind of too simple and - of course - not as secure as it will be with the first major version of it. If you're interested, view it here, and contribute: https://github.com/Jojatekok/SelfHash

Neat. I enjoy these encryption kind of things. This seems pretty simple at the moment, however.
Good luck!

Although, I highly doubt you'll be able to create an algorithm that would be "not decryptable" - seems like a misnomer for those who understand these types of securities.

Nevertheless,
I'm interested in seeing what you have in mind for future versions, in terms of technicalities.

Re: [Programming] SelfHash - Self-Hashing for Passwords

Some people told me that my algorithm is more like a hasher, so I decided to rename the project.
But in future releases, you will be able to combine hashing with some kind of - asymmetric or symmetric - encryption. By the way, there was a huge progress today //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

I hope that more people will try to improve the method with time. Mathematicians are welcome to help too, even without the knowledge of coding (just describe the method, and someone else will probably try to implement it).

On my PC with an Intel Core i5-2500, I've measured the performance. It's about 100-200 ticks (about 0,04ms) for decryption when the password isn't correct; and about 1000 ticks when it is. It wasn't a benchmark, but some quick measurements, so the values could be lower or higher.
